Labor fees to install a kit
Labor fees to install a kit
I just have a question. you guys can choose to answer or not if you feel this is a more of a private matter. This question is mainly for those with the ms kit for their 8. How much did you pay for it, and how much did you pay for the kit to be installed (labor fee). I really want to get the kit in the future, but seeing how the ms kit is so expensive compared to the others, i wanted to know how much more I'm gonna have to save up for labor.
the ms kit is no longer in production; however, the kit can be installed with basic tools in your own garage. there's no need to pay a body shop to install it if you can get your hands on the genuine ms kit.
The mazdausa website seems to sell it. You can select the kit part and color and it gives you a color to pick and quantity. After you select that they give you a price and which dealership to ship it to.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong or misread something. Don't wanna get my hopes up =P
Btw, for those of you that said do it yourself, is there a tutorial floating around the site i can look into? I'm pretty much a newb on car fixin and don't wanna mess up. What tools do i need? Thanks guys.

i think they stopped production on the ms kit a little while ago................so there will obviously be some still on the market until they sell out. they didn't necessarily stop SALES...just PRODUCTION.
the front end is an exact fit, you can do that yourself.
you might want to get the side skirts installed by a pro. i did, but you have to drill the frame of the car, which, at least to me, goes behind "basic" installation. depend on how handy you are i guess.
the rear you have to cut from what i hear...so that too goes beyond basic.
i paid a couple hundred bucks for the sides to get painted (didn't want the gray strip at the bottom) and installed.

I bought my MS front and sides about 4-5 months ago and they were on "back order" so I had to wait a month for a new shipment to come in. It's only been a couple months, so there still may be some hope for you IF the kit, in fact, was out of production.
On another note, 2tone said he would recommend getting the sides installed by a professional. I installed the sides myself; I just followed what the directions said to do and everything turned out great. You just NEED TO MAKE SURE that you check to see if you have all of the required tools. Other than that if you have had some experience drilling holes in stuff everything else goes fairly quickly. It took me about 4 hours because I had to run to the store for some of the things I didn't have.
Patience is key, so the longer you take, the better it will turn out....maybe.
Good luck to you.

EDIT: Oh, and the front is a piece of cake to install. Just make sure you have a few towels on the ground so you don't scratch the bottom of the bumper.

Good kits should bolt-on almost perfectly. Can't say that for knock-offs though, so watch out. I recommend saving-up for the original, like the other guys that have posted, because it's worth it. I've seen a couple installed in-person and they come out great without a bodyshop needed.
If you buy an imitation, it'll end up costing the same after modification and paint, but you seem set on the original. As far as getting one, hit-up your Mazda dealer as soon as you can and get one a layaway or something. Take a small loan out if you have too, cause they will run out.
