Got bored this weekend so I ran to the tint shop(who happened to have 3m carbon fiber vinyl) and grabbed a roll. It isnt actual carbon fiber but you can barely tell the difference because its actually 3d


You can wrap just about any part with it and it has adhesive backing. Its fairly flexible but becomes more strechable with heat.



I wrapped the steering wheel control plastics and the side pieces. My brother wrapped his (celica) steering wheel.

To Wrap a part:
1. Remove and clean the part (sand down any rough surfaces if needed)
2. Cut out a rough shape of the part in the vinyl and remove the paper backing
3. Apply to the part gently so that you dont make any wrinkles.
4. Use hair dryer or heat gun to make plyable and stretchy and press onto part.
5. Cut off excess and press corners down the rest of the way

Yeah, DEF something you dont want to overdo, so I just stuck to the steering wheel control pieces and the side pannel pieces(because mine were scratched up pretty bad)

 

Any idea what its heat rating is?

not sure of the heat rating but it becomes flexible with a hair dryer so I wouldnt put it in an engine compt.

Just search youtube for "3m carbon fiber wrap" theres quite a few up

 

he did a very good job. I have been looking at this instead of fully carbon replacement pieces from mazda speed. Out trim pieces get sctrached very easily so this would be a great fix for damaged pieces.

Yeah its definitly something that is worth doing the silver trim pieces that get nasty really easily, That was by far the easiest piece to cover. The steering wheel control parts not so much. But anyone with a screwdriver a hair dryer and some 3m can do the center trims.

...buuut if anyone wants parts covered just let me know, Im sure for a small price we can arange something

 

Yea I've been wanting to do something about the center console pieces and the ring around the shifter since they're all scratched up, but I'm not a big CF fan Looks good though, good job.

 

york they make the same vinyl id different colors, even silver. All you need to do is pick the color you want. It even costs less if its not CF :P
