new to the forum and need help with a bad climate control system

New to the forum but I've owned Mazda's for years. I've had an '89 RX-7, 93' RX-7 Twin Turbo (which I loved) and now own an '04 RX-8.

Love the RX-8 too but bought it this summer, and seems to now have an issue with regulating the temp of the heater. took it into the shop today and they're saying it's a bad climate control unit. Something like ~400 or so for the unit and another $125 to install it.

Any place around to get parts at a better price? or just have to pony up the >$500 to fix it?

Thanks for any help! - Matt

That DIY looks intimidating, but seriously, it took me just about an hour to get done, and make sure you're REALLY careful about removing the bolt that holds in your Stereo...I accidentally let go of that effer, and it's lost in the chasm of my car interior!

Good luck on the really easy DIY!

First time that I removed the stereo I put that bolt in my ashtray and it is still there. I did not put it back to make it easier to remove the stereo next time. It is a hassle getting to that bolt. BTW here is a good video for removing stereo. It shows that bolt and everything.

good luck, and be patient...removing that is a pita. i did it, and managed to not be able to fix it myself after all that! i bought a brand new unit and installed it myself rather than paying somone to, so i saved a little money there. i also got a deal on the unit through a friend, but i just lucked out with that.

Its really not that hard, and you can have it back in and running in 45 mins. Just make sure while your at it that you insulate the AC line.
