Fan noise

One of the few things that I can't get used to on my 8 is the noise from the fan. On anything higher than 2 it is obtrusive (unless of course I am really rocking...) I know this topic has come up in various other ways (did the search) but I haven't seen anyone write about a potential solution. Maybe this is much lower priority than HP or MPG but it is definitely not in line with the overall 'quality' of the car.

The question is what can we do to improve Fan noise within the bounds of a normal driveway mechanic?

Agreed, it sound like a cheapo fan for sure above #1, and with no sound deadening in (around) the ducts. Now one would hope it wouldn't sound SO BAD until like maybe #3, but no.

I work with computers and the similar problem goes like this:

Little fans in constricted areas have to go fast and have aggressive (read noisy) blades to move enough air to matter. Result: Noisy computer (tiring to be near).

BIG fans, like 5 or 6" ones in some new cases move way more air, have less aggressive bite to the blades and are whisper quiet (ahhh, the peace and quiet!)

I imagine in the space available, Mazda has small ductwork (can anyone who has taken theirs apart verify?), using a small fast fan to move enough air to matter (sort of, I think it is a definitely lacking).

Result: What we have (sigh).

Possible Solutions:
1. Turn the radio louder.
2. Open the window.
3. Turn the fan off.

I use these already when possible. However, there are situational problems with them...

1) the wife wants to talk
2) it is below zero
3) it is below zero

Oh, that kind of "fan noise." I thought you meant the murmur from the crowds that gather aound the car at the mall...

Looks like the perfect solution for the wife talking but what about for the fan?
