General opinions between strut/spring combo and coilovers

Hello all, I have stock struts with Tein S-Techs and it seems like their very soft. I helped install my friends S-techs on his 350z with his stock struts and his ride is almost double the stiffness. I know its a 350 but is their suspension really that much stiffer than ours?

So anyone have strut/spring combo and coilovers and want to give some insight? Im really looking to upgrade them now. I plan to do some track days and autocross. Is there a big difference with corner balancing? And you can only corner balance coilovers right?

I ran Koni Struts with S-techs for a while and it's an amazing combo.
Konis at full SOFT are already stiffer then OEM's so you've got plenty of room to adjust accordingly.

If I understand correctly you cant corner balance KONI and S-techs correct? Even though its basically coilovers since their adjustable?

It's similar to coils but you cant adjust ride height.

correct: can't corner balance.

most people don't need corner balancing though...

i think im probably going to go with the KONI yellows. How harsh is it as a daily with the stiffness quite high? jedi what made you not run this setup no more?

I made some aesthetic changes to my car recently and upgraded to HKS Hypermax III coilovers in order to have better control of ride height.

the rears are adjusted while off the car. Once you put them on, the only way to adjust the rears is to remove the strust.
the fronts are a piece of cake.

its a general misunderstanding about Koni Sport adjustables - the adjustment is primarily intended for WEAR, not for tuning. Tuning is these shocks is done by the valving at factory. You want adjustable tune shocks, look elsewhere.

Sorry my bad - I was thinking of the regular Konis - yeah the Sport are meant to be user adjustable its just that in the RX-8 you have to remove the rears to make the adjustment. I have them on mine - Koni Sport that is - and a set of standard ride height +20% stiffer custom springs and its very good for me - but then I had Tein H and found them harsh so if you're finding the Tein S soft I have no idea what to recommend. All things considered if you want stiff springs and shocks, I doubt the Konis are the way to go for you - you'd be wanting something more pure track orientated I should think...

Bilstein PSS9 if you want a great coilover for the money. Swap out the springs for some stiffer ones...

Koni Yellows + S Techs if you want something cheaper that will still feel good on the street.

The Bilstein PSS9's are a nice set, everything seems to be of top quality but I have installed a set and they were a bitch to adjust though, even on a lift. The Tanabe's tbk has were pretty easy to adjust. I'm not sure if my experience is rare or not but just thought I would share.

adjustability is overrated, get properly valved shocks for your spring rate

If I went coils I would go with Stance or BC coils. But they are also twice the price as the KONIs and I dont really need the height adjustment since I like the drop of the S-Techs.

Im sure KONIs are plenty stiff enough for my needs as I have been reading the KONI thread and looks like they car really be stiff.
