I got the door edge guards from Trussville this past weekend. Since there weren't instructions, I figured they just push on the edge. I used a piece of 2 X 4 to hit it on tight. It worked just fine.

However, there was this tool that came with it that I cannot figure out what it is used for. Trussville said they had no idea and even looked at one of the door edge guards they had in stock and opened the box to find the same exact tool. They had no idea either what it used for since there are no directions with this item.

I am posting a pic below. It's sharp on one edge of the metal as if its a knife. Has anyone any information on this tool as to what it is for?

 

I received my door edge guards this past week also (on order 6 months), and there were instructions in the box.

It says the tool is to be used to remove some of the molding from the inside of each door BEFORE installing the door edge guards. The "flat" edge goes up against the end or the door, and you use an upward motion on the drivers door, and a downward motion on the passenger door (obviously, this applies only to left hand drive cars). This allows the blade to be in the proper position for removing the molding.

Then, you are supposed to paint the "removal" area with touch-up paint, wait 15 minutes, and install the door edge guards - which they mention are specific to a door (they can not (should not?) be interchanged.

Seems like a lot of trouble, AND more to the point, they llok like they would go on without interfering with the molding anyway......hmmmm.

Yeah, that's exactly what I think. Mine went on without any molding removal what so ever. My only fear is that they will fall off some day because they just push on, though they are tight, they still move a little and I keep an eye on them.
