Buyback an option?

I posted this question in the Advice thread, but I thought it deserved it's own thread since other potential or recent purchasers might want peace of mind.

Aside from the lemon law (requiring a certain amount of time in the shop over a specified period of time defined by your state), is there a federal or state law that allows for a buyback?

If I find the car they give me (getting Post-Delivery inspection this afternoon) has problems and I don't want it, do I have an option?

Also, is it a problem that I allowed my dealer to sell me a car w/o a spoiler and sell me a spoiler at invoice with free installation? Is a factory install of the spoiler somehow preferable to the dealer doing it?

Well I hope it's just as good b/c that's what I did, for better or worse.

Going to pick up the car in an hour

I'm nervous and excited at the same time

If you live in California, we have a different Lemon law.. you drive off the lot, it's your's.

In general, this is true everywhere unless there was a "buyer's remorse" clause in your paperwork. So no, there is no buyback if you decide you don't want the car after you've signed everything.

PDI is actually PRE-Delivery Inspection - if you don't like it, you can refuse to accept delivery. Then the car is still theirs, it was never yours, and you just have to deal with getting your deposit back. So - go over it with a fine-tooth comb, check all the options against the window sticker and order (ie make sure it takes more than 1 CD if you're supposed to be getting the 6 CD changer, etc). If there is ANYTHING wrong, do NOT accept delivery, do NOT drive it off the lot and expect/hope that they'll fix it or make it right tomorrow. Take your trade-in home or take a cab/bus home, but don't sign anything until you're completely happy and ready.

The rear spoiler is actually port-installed (ie at the ports in the US when the boats dock, before the car is shipped to the dealer), like the appearance package bits - they're not actually installed at the factory anyway. It should be no different than having your dealer install it.

Regards,
Gordon

Thanks for the responses.

I GOT MY CAR!!! :D :D

<<doing a little dance>>

I was driving like a 95 year old lady on the way home. I actually had that "new parent" syndrome where you get pissed at driving fast around your new baby. Stupid wreckless drivers!! Don't they know I'm driving "precious" home brand spanking new from the lot?!?

Hehe, I'm such a sucker for this car. I'm going to keep driving my old car to work as long as I have it because I don't want to put the miles on the new one or park it in my work's parking garage!

Speaking of....how do you guys "break in" your car? 2-3k rpm only? Vary speed, etc?

I'm going to go read the manual now...

eek!

Congrats!! As far as break in is concerned: 600 miles seems to be the norm. It mentions it in the manual also. Enjoy your 8!
