I've tried FF, FR, 1.8Turbo, Rotary, Honda VTECH....

I think 4wd or MR is the next choice.

This just looks perfect!

More pics....

"The face of an angry pig have been replaced by facial redesign of Darth Vader. It is already a sort of progress, no doubt here. Seriously a nice car with popular taillights and Brera shape. Good work Audi. " I like this comment lol

I like the front in the first picture, the second one looks too much like the E-tron. Good looking car, regardless.

Ehh... its looks make it look like it has more power... Id hate it to look TOO aggressive for its actual power plant... But Audi knows how to make a car, ill let them handle it

Audi is reducing the engine displacement options in their line-up.
The A4 isn't even offered with a V6 and the new S4 switched from an NA V8 to a force-fed V6.

Odds are, since it's coming out of Ingolstadt, it'll be heavy (for its class), pretty, have an amazing interior and that's about it.

I found it odd...everyone loves the new S4's 3.0 supercharged engine. Its better than the NA v8 in everything except on sound and hp - it actually got better torque throughout the range.

Audi's R8 is BETTER than the Rx8 in the Motortrend's America's best handling car test, and I believe this R4 can be a great handler....

The V8 models were a step down in my opinion. In stock form, they might work out well, but audi has built some strong FI engines in the past. They have a lot of potential with aftermarket mods. The V8s sounded great and definitely put out the power, but I'd take the smaller FI engine any day.

I love Audi's, but that's a funny looking Audi, imo. But 2,500 lbs and all-wheel drive; could be fun.

R8 has a rear biased AWD system.

TT has a front biased AWD system.

4WD systems are seen in trucks and SUVs where you can turn it on or off.

But that V8 is one of Jeremy Clarkson's favorite engine

lol, haven't driven either, so cannot comment which one is better. Too bad BMW M3 is their direct competitor.

I still want a RWD car, no matter where the engine is.

AWD has its uses and some people like it. AWD has come a long way so the power distribution can essentially be RWD at times but still offers the benefits of the AWD. The one issue that hasn't really disappeared is the extra weight, but for many, the good outways the bad. We've seen plenty of examples that show AWD can hold its own in the high performance arena.

Don't get me wrong, the V8 is a great engine. Stock for stock, the V8s beat out the stock bi turbo S4 and keeps up with the newer supercharged model rather well. You can modify the V8s, but when it comes to modifications, it's a lot easier to up the power by increasing boost than pretty much any bolt on you can do for an n/a engine.

example of a moderately modded S4:

and with just a little more:

I'd pick that over the V8 personally...

Actually the Quattro system is 4 (FOUR) Wheel Drive. The reason being is that the transfer case has a differential in it, allowing it to be used on All surfaces, all the time, and is permanent. In Longitudaly mounted engine equipped Audi's, the system is permanent, rear biased, always on. In Tranversely mounted engine equipped Audi's (Like the TT), it is front biased, not always sending power to all four wheels, but always capable of doing so.

personally, I like to think of the system in the TT as AWD and the S5 as 4WD.

Back on topic though, a lightweight 4WD coupe is right up my alley, it just depends on which quattro system they use.

Best way to describe it is that if at all times and conditions all 4 wheels are receiving some torque, that is 4WD and can be used on the beach (off road). If at any time there is 100% of the torque to one set of Drive wheels and is capable of sending to the other set when necessary, that is considered AWD and legally cannot be driven on a beach (off road)

Great info, thanks!

Wish we had a rep system.

Ya I had a girlfriend with a Audi A4 quattro. That thing might have been heavy as a big brick of lead but it was very agile though, I was quite impressed. When I was looking for a car and eventually got my 8, I was really big into the WRX line. If you ever get to drive one take the chance! Little boxer 4 actually puts out some torque and feels different than most 4 cylinders. Alot lighter than the Audi's it really fit the way I drive and where I was driving. At that point though I knew I was moving to charleston SC where there are no mountains...no curves....and road conditions aren't the best so I went with the 8 instead. Had I stayed in east TN(about 45 min from the deals gap-the dragon) I would've gone with either a WRX or audi. Audi really know's how to make a AWD system but I wasn't impressed with the Audi TT. The TT was decent for driving around....but it didnt have the feel of a RWD car. The haldex system they used just didn't justify the price of the TT for me. Just my 2 cents

Maybe audi is making a 4wd Coupe to compete with the new STI coupe thats coming back

Audi always comes out with a very appealing and styling look. I just hope that this R4 would have a pretty competitive engine selection for its chassis.

I guess we'll have to wait and see
