P0302 cel need help

Yesterday while driving around town, the engine started wanting to die at idle and running really rough. started getting flashing cel, so i pulled over and noticed some white smoke coming from the back of the engine compartment(engine temp was normal). also noticed that the cat was extremely hot with very loud popping noises. so i had it towed back to the house and removed the cat figuring that it may have been clogged. But i am still getting cel codes P0302(rotor 2 misfires) and P0171(system running too lean). Should i replace the plugs next? any help is appreciated

ps: 04 6mt stock with 48000mi

When was the last time you changed your plugs and coils? They are only good for 25k-35k.

to be honest i am not sure when the last time they have been changed. i bought it used about a year ago from a dealer and figure that they were changed before i purchased it but not 100%. i have only put 9 or 10k miles on it. does it sound like thats the problem?

Yes, it's a federal mandate and the CAT is covered for 8 years or 80k miles.

If the CAT is really bad..............and it certainly appears that way, then the answer would be "yes".
