Hey guys, looking for stories for the texas8 website that would be good for it (aka sponsors and other people see the site)

Any write ups would be appreciated since it seems most of the stories of say bikers, drinking, or almost going off a cliff probably aren't the best to post...

 

what's wrong with bikers? And drinking? Lol I'm surprised I didn't do something that wasn't story worthy this year...

 

How about heisting a security golf cart and driving it around the parking lot?
or butt prints on people's cars?

was a great time though...

 

Would you want your mom or your parents to read those stories?

Most of the stories would be stuff done to you than about you this year...

 

I'll try to sit down and write some words for you.

 

Please do, its the last thing I need to set up on the site before I start sending it out to sponsers etc. Trying to get it ready so that I can use it for planning next year as well.

 

This is exactly why stories about getting drunk, or golf carts, or idiot bikers, or crazy cops, are not the kind of stories we're looking for.

 

Sooo, having looked over your site and the stories already posted there, I'm thinking that it would probably be best to remove the stories link entirely, or maybe only show that link to registered users that are logged in and then try and control what sponsors see that way?

Anyone else have thoughts on the matter... (dont shoot the messagner)

Well, since a couple of us agree on that, I've since removed the stories link entirely from the media section.

They aren't deleted, there's just no way for anyone to get to them presently.

With that being said, I think the site is pretty much ready to be used to start collecting sponsors/accomadations etc for next year. I would like to add more pictures but it is what it is.

I made the trip to San Antonio from Tulsa this year to attend the Texas8 meet. From the first post that I made on in the forum thread that I was going to be attending, the Texas8 guys made me feel welcome. I received a message from one of the Dallas crew, asking what my plans for the trip down were. They offered us a place to stay in the DFW area, so that we could come down a day early and make the rest of the drive with their crew down to San Antonio. Upon reaching DFW, We met Thomas and Steve. We all went out and had a good dinner. They also took us to Flips, which is one of their local hangouts for meets and such. Later that evening, Brandon joined us at Thomas’s place to just chill and prepare for the mornings drive down. I don’t think anybody really got any sleep. We were too excited about the upcoming event.
We headed out the next morning to meet up with the rest of the DFW crew for the caravan to San Antonio. All not accounted for due to a rash of accidents, but we still amassed 8 beautiful Rx8’s to make the caravan. We made the drive down 281. It was a great trip without any issues. All the people we met really made us feel like part of their crew.
After reaching San Antonio and getting checked into our rooms, we met Mike and Melissa. They are a couple from SARX that chose to stay at the hotel to spend some time with the other drivers and show where to eat. We had a great authentic Mexican dinner, and met a lot of the SARX crew. That evening we just hung out, some of us went to a local bar the SARX guys. Again, sleep was restless in preparation for the 3 sisters.
As the sun arises on a beautiful Saturday morning, we started preparing for our run through the hills. We headed out to a local Gold’s gym parking lot to place everyone into their groups. They established 3 groups ranging from a pretty quick run of the mountains to a leisurely stroll to view the sites. All in all we had 23 Rx8’s representing to states. I chose to drive with group A, being the group more inclined to push the limits of our cars. As we stiffened our suspension and made final adjustments, the excitement grew. Having never done anything like this I was really ecstatic about getting started. I had been waiting for 2 months for this drive. The wait was finally over.
From the first minute of roll out to the last stretch of road back to the hotel, this was a blast. We drove approx. 280 miles of mountain roads. Stopped at an apple orchard for fresh apple pie and apple cinnamon soft serve, this was the icing on the cake. The roads we traversed were two-lane, mountain on one side, guardrail and 300-600 ft drop on the other for a good section of the trip. The views were gorgeous. Later on we dropped down in elevation and headed through some nice sweeping canyon roads. For roads this far out, they were meticulously maintained, even the cattle guards were smoothly laid into the roads. I would have never thought I could cross a cattle guard at 70, but we did. Everyone made it back safely, no incidents.
After returning to town, we met up at Bigz for evening meals, drinks, and a raffle. The Bigz’ staff was great about accommodating all of us. We had to park along the access road to the number of us. They actually called in a SAPD officer and he watched our cars until we left. After a failed attempt at swapping my cloth for leather interior, we had a couple of drinks at the hotel with the crew before bed.
The next morning started the beginning of a long trip home. We were offered the opportunity to stay in DFW again, but decided to caravan with James back to Tulsa. I have to say that even though I pushed a coolant seal and will have to rebuild my engine (due to an earlier overheat, not Texas8 damage) I will be making this trip next year. This was one of best I’ve ever had. The people, the drive, the rotary camaraderie everything you think a road rally meet should be this one was. It’s hard to imagine 30+ people getting together and there not being a jerk in sight, but it happened. I want to say “THANK YOU” to everyone that had a hand in putting this together. I’ve made new and great friendships from this trip and continue to stay in touch with people from NTXRotary and SARX. If you decide to make this trip you will not be disappointed. Hope to see you guys again soon.
