Poll: RX-8 6-speed actual weight

We have seen Mazda hedge with "projections". What do YOU think the RX-8 will weight upon introduction?

I think they have to get it below 3000 lbs., if nothing more than simply psychological effect. The RX-8 is light, and in this day of safety and weight, anything less than 3000 lbs is light. That is their goal.

They have already given a projection over 3,000, so I think 2,900 is not a possibility now.

I don't know, 2900 may be quite possible...

Yes, but as another posting indicated, 3000+ lbs could be the fully loaded model. Typically sunroofs add 50lbs, and power seats and subwoofer could equate to another 50lbs.

The 1300kg curb weight listed in a UK brochure would also indicate a potential sub 3000lbs weight - especially since the sunroof and power seat are listed as extras.

Personally, I'd like to see 2900lbs. Even with that, there would be room to further knock off some weight when a stainless header comes out (really, who's not going to get one? :D ) and when the run-flats are finally ditched for more supple, sticker, and lighter rubber.

I think just over 3000 (i.e. voted for 3035) for 6MT Grand Touring Package+Nav and below 3000 for Base RX-8 6MT with Sport Package (maybe 2970 or something).

I don't think there is going to be much weight savings in the header. The Renesis doesn't have a cast iron header. The press kit shows a double walled header made of some pretty thin metal (stainless?) This design allows the exhaust gases to retain heat for quick light-off of the cats without going to a heavy cast iron header.
