there's always "that guy"

So if you've seen the for sale posts, im obviously desperatly trying to sell my car. It is now all decked out with for sale written all over it like a bill board. Anyways, so naturally i get lots of people (usually those who can't afford it) ask me how much i want for it, even though its written on the back glass. Anyways, so this guy in the gas station asks me why I am selling it. So i tell him of my divorce and how things are hard now. He proceeds to tell me he had an old 82 rx7 model once upon a time. I once had an 87 so we start talking about it. He then tells me his rx7 was naturally aspirated, no nos, and was putting out over 400hp to the wheels. Me being the awesome guy i am immediately call his bluff. He then tells me, that it was a custom made aluminum block that was all bored and stuff..haha. I said u had a rotary in it right? he said ya.. of course. NA right? ya thats what i said. So you took it from 140~ hp to over 400 by having it bored and stuff and a custom apex seal made. haha and a bigger intake. He said ya man it was bad ***. I then told him how that was impossible and the most ive heard out of an NA was a lil over 200. He then said everyone else was retarded basically and didn't know what they were doing lol. So never fear , there will always be "that guy" who has done the impossible and act like its no big deal lol.
i bet he thinks my car puts out 1000hp NA bone stock and has flux capacitor. haha

I'd imagine if he PP'd it, it could get more than 200....
....
but I have no idea how high it would get, plus making it completely useless on the street.

idk, even pp'd on an old 83 like that, ive not heard more than i think 225. I used to be all over that rx7 forum. There was an entire sticky dedicated to it. granted, 225 is a considerable upgrade from where it started, but no where near 400. I even asked the guy if it was a 2 rotor haha just in case. I could see a cosmo or something doing that maybe. but i let him ride off into the early morning sun in his beat up old 84 f150 that barely ran lol.

He was mistaken. He was actually getting 400 ft-lb of talk.

Ahh, that would make sense, then. I wasn't entirely sure how high it could go, but 400 still sounded pretty stretchy. I'll never understand why people lie like that. What do they gain, besides a thread insulting him?

I wish I had audio recordings of all the crazy gas station conversations I've had concerning the 8 since I got the car.

An old Mazda competition manual lists a P-Port 12A "basic performance specification" at 270hp.
But there's no way that would be a street car it would idle at over 2000 rpm and have to stop for gas every day.

I had a guy driving an Acura NSX tell me my RX8 was frickin' amazing at a gas station... he kept walking around it, admiring it... I was like "well, you've got nice car man..."

he didn't even hear me. He was too busy eyeballing the car. Ya. It was weird.

Gotta love gas station banter. Car salesmen are good for a few laughs too.

The stock 12A RX7 was 100-105 HP. Getting to 400, even FI, would be impossible. Well, for more than 10 seconds then KABLOOIE.

I used to get that all time a few years ago when I had my CJ7. I used to take it mudding so it was always dirty. Random people would just walk up and tell me their old jeep stories.
