C&D Mazda 3 Trumps VW Golf and Kia Forte
In the April 2010 issue and not on the Web site yet.
Mazda 3 Sport (200 points) beats VW Golf (198) and Kia Forte SX (196). VW beat up the 3 in the Vehicle and Powertrain categories, but the 3 won the Chassis and Experience (Fun to Drive) categories and edged ahead.
All three were manual transmissions. The 3's steering gets praised as RX-8 like. So our car gets a kudo in the article. The VW would have won if the chassis was tailored a bit more GTI instead of cruiser. And the Forte is yet another example of determined and climbing Hyundai.
Unlike the last generation 3, IMO the best 3's are bread and butter models. The current MS3 isn't as great as it should be. Hopefully, it will be rectified.
