I have the borla as well. I had Shookmotorsports build me a DR Midpipe. He now builds them to sell. It sounds amazing! it keeps the nice deep tone that the borla puts out but just makes it a lil louder and it just sounds amazing! Go to Shookmotorsports.com

I have my Borla with the RB Dual Resonated midpipe. Music to my ears. No rasp at all.

Will all midpipes throw a CEL? Also, will it affect my warranty?

What about a high flow cat?

Depends on what you mean by sounds "good" to you.

Some believe that a rotary shouldn't sound like a deep V8. . . I like the sound of a deep V8... So the Borla with the RB dual Res pipe is an ideal choice.

AS local here has the Borla with the AP dual res pipe and its got a good tone, higher pitched, and gets a bit of rasp at 7500rpm and over.

Just depends on what sounds good to you.

1 resonator or no resonators will raspy...

2 small resonators remove most of the rasp... and 2 large resonators (RB or Mazsport) will reduce nearly all of the rasp, but make the tone very deep.

I heard when you start changing midpipes/headers, tuning is required. Will anything go wrong if i dont tune it?

Where have you heard this?

For what its worth. . . I've been running catless for over a year without tuning and no issues (relating to fuel trims anyway)

Headers are more of a concern because of where the front o2 sensor is placed in the collector. Some header put the o2 sensor only reading off of 1 rotor because of how the header pipes come together... that could be a concern. But I haven't heard of tuning ever being needed for a midpipe or header.

im thinking about eventually getting a borla exhaust. Im just getting my rx8 this week so im not too sure of everything yet..whats a midpipe? im guessing pipe from mufflers to cat..but yous are talking about the midpipe changing the sound.

can i just go to an exhaust shop with my rx8 and get a borla exhaust that way?
thats how i did the exhaust on my last car.

if not what can i do ? just order it with clamps and bolt it? i dont have anything to get the car up higher to install them..

what do yous think?

The idea that catalytic converters impede flow of exhaust was born back in the 70's when they were first installed per federal law. The first ones were a pebble bed style that did cause restriction and when mixed with the other emissions requirements a 400hp car went to 200hp in a hurry. To say people were pissed was an understatement. The same car 1 year newer would have half the power as the last years model...

Today catalytic converters are a honeycomb design. A straight flow through design with less restriction than a muffler. But yet the idea of restriction continues and people take them off and spend money for little or no return.

If you have a full up race car with massive enhancements in the engine and every single 1hp counts then sure running no cat makes sense.

But if you have a street car with minor bolt on bling you will get a better return on your money by buying better tires and a hot dog. The tires will keep you shiny side up and the hot dog will fill your belly.
well,

glad you got it covered, but some cats flow more than others..

google 100 cell count and 300 cell count and see what you come up with..

you dont have to run no cat to see improvements.. but you could.

beers

I would look into the Racing Beat RX-8 Resonated Catalytic Converter Race Pipe. The quailty and fitment are perfect. This is pretty much the same midpipe as the Mazsport one since Mazsport used Racing Beats resonator units. The only thing different between the 2 kits is Racing Beat used smaller resonator units so it would fit better under the RX8.

I had a borla paired with the AP dual resonated midpipe and I thought it was the best. I have a full turboxs exhaust now and would say I preferred the sharpness of the borla/ap combo but the turboxs is full 3 inch piping.
