Driver's Airbag/horn cover removal

Driver's Airbag/horn cover removal
Ok, I've found my very annoying rattle by applying a slight lifting pressure on the airbag/horn cover to the top rear lip.
I have read the service manual and safety precautions but am still a little hesitant to fix myself.
It is no longer under warranty and i am not sure what the dealer would charge.
Has anybody removed this cover. Is there any real danger of it going off if you follow the service manual
