My first rx8

hello im considering purchasing and used Rx-8. if i can get some input of weather i should get a 2007 with 80,000 miles or a 2004 with 54,000 miles. my main reason for asking is because of the failure rate of the 2004 models.

thanks

80k miles is ridiculous for an 07. The 04 is good, but depends on how well the previous owner took care of it. I would suggest to keep looking. I got an 05 with 23k miles in December, with one owner. Don't jump on a deal just cause you really want a car. I waited a good 4 months before I found the deal of a lifetime.

I just bought my first rx-8 last month, 2004 with 59k miles. Runs great. The 2007 with 80k is way too much.
That car could have been a rental.

If you're posting in this sub-forum I'm going to assume you're looking at automatic models. The '04 is going to have a slightly less powerful 4 port engine and a 4 speed transmission. On the other hand 80k on any 3 year old car is ridiculous, whoever had it was driving twice the distance the average american puts on their car (hell my 07 has 39k and I drive alot). As suggested keep looking, the 06+ models are going to have the 6 speed transmission and I'm sure you can find one under 60k miles, for a similar price, with some patient searching.

edit: check out year to year changes thread here for some extra info:

Keep lookin'. I found an 04' with 42k on it. I also have all the service records. There were a few recalls , I double checked to make sure that they all had been taken care of. I looked for about 5 months and looked at about a dozen cars. Don't be in too big of a hurry. Good Luck.

I think the 2007 with 6AT is better than the 2004 4AT.
04 is good too after the recall was done...
I have a 04, 85K now. still running strong (second engine that they replaced for free at 40sth K)
for me , stick still my first option....(I regrade bought an auto

I bought an 05 a couple of months ago and I like the 4speed in it, I wouldnt mind trying out the 6speedAT...

Like everyone else is saying tho, 07 with 80K+ on it is way too much, my 05 had 61,000 but had a crank no start problem, and got a brand new engine, so Im now running with only 3K on my engine now!!
