motor blown car gone

well I took the 8 to the shop and they said the engine is toast, it had 96,000 miles on it. I took good care of it but don't know how the person that had it before me did. I got it from a used car dealer. so I took it back to the car dealer that I got it from they told me that they would put me in something new over the phone but then when we got there they said they cant help me other than fixing the car. they tried to sell me a used motor with 6,000 miles on it for 4,000 plus install. they wanted to add it to the what I owe on the car and re finance with 1,500 down I told then to go to hell that I wasn't paying that much for a motor with that many miles. anywho yeah
I gave the car back so no 8 for me anymore :>( anyway thanks for everything guys and gals the 8 was fun I plan on getting another in the future when I can afford to buy one new from mazda not from a piece of **** used car dealer anyway thanx and peace

Yeah....you could have had a free engine from Mazda, factory engine warranty up to 100,000. Although proving service history might have been rough.

If you broke even and walked away clean, I can't blame you, but there was another option

You must not visit this site much then. I lost compression at 91K and got a new engine and I'm the second owner of mine! I didn't have to provide any receipts or anything for maintenance. Hell it was even catless at the time and the dealer still did it no questions!

Doh! That's freaking awesome. A little chlorine in the gene pool is a good thing. Yeah, the manufacturer's warranty transfers from owner to owner.

Yes, the engine block is covered under standard fully transferable factory warranty for 8 years/100,000 miles from the date of first purchase (Carfax or Mazda North America can tell you when that date is)

I think the other warranties (bumper to bumper, power train) vary slightly year to year. Those transfer as well, since they are factory warranties. If a previous owner bought an extended warranty, those generally do not transfer.

I just read your post again and noticed after the motor blew you took it back to the used car dealer you got it from. Was it a Mazda dealer? probably not which is why they wanted to charge you for an engine replacement. Mazda would have fixed you right up. Fail

I drive an 04 VR

I did not realize that the warranty transferred from owner to owner... now I feel little bit safer about driving the car hard.

I have read in other threads that you have to prove maintaince on the car over the period that you owned it.

im gonna have to look it up on the warranty, unless someone has a digital copy that they can link.

that's actually incorrect. they come with their own service but it ends at the end of the bumper to bumper warranty.

EDIT: i grabbed this from the mazdausa site for the 2010 since i can't find one for the older models. should be the same/similar though.

24/7 ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE

In addition, if a Mazda vehicle is not driveable due to the failure of a warranted powertrain component, then towing service will be covered during the coverage period of the Powertrain Limited Warranty (60 months/60,000 miles).

Look at this attachment, from Mazda, for your verification.
There is also a 5yr/60K warranty on the complete drivetrain.
