I hear that it was bad to have a milky looking condensation on the oil cap, and briefly the overheating light came on today for about 5 seconds so I checked the engine over (I have limited knowledge), but when I went to add a little bit of oil the cap looked like this,


I live in Minnesota and its been about 40 degrees F these past few weeks so that might be part of the problem, the car does feel alright though.

Milky condensation on your dipstick is BAD BAD BAD!!!!

Looks like you are in for a serious course of antibotics.

 

White milkey residue on your RX8 dipstick is common and the residue on the bottom of your oil cap is probably just some blown back up to your vacuum line under your oil cap. I would say its nothing to worry about.

yes I did know that, but like I said before I heard that milky condensation on the oild components isn't good, so I wanted to ask the experts on here since I don't know too much about this stuff. thanks for the replies, i can sleep easily now.

 

The overheating light coming on breifly is common because the sensor is a peice of crap. Mine does it every now and then. As long as you have enough coolant in the resivor then you are fine

 

FinishlinePerformance doesn't appear to have the TSB's linked at the moment, but "milky oil" (condensation) is a known issue on earlier models and not a performance problem, although there is a Mazda solution in the TSB if it bothers you.

The best solution is an oil catch can with breather filter.

 

They aren't linked anymore, but are still there if you know how!

btw: be sure to get the compact can that Vyn shows, or similar, as there isn't much room. The 5.75" tall hanging unit is perfect both in fit and accomodation of gravity feed.
