Please give me your opinion about the attached rims!

I have a 2006 charcoal grey RX-8.
Sorry - that i don't know the fashion color name

Now my Question:

The stock Summer tires are 225/40R18.
If i change to 235 or 215 - will it mess up my speedometer reading?

Actually, the stocks are 225x45x18.

Any deviation in profile from stock will effect the speedo reading, but only by a relatively small amount. There are sites to calculate the delta (just don't have one handy).

Oh, and I like the rims (not for me, but still nice).

 

The fashion name of your car's color is probably titanium gray, just so you know. And these rims would probably look pretty good on the car, but I'm not a big fan of heavy and/or busy designs.

As far as your speedometer being off, it will vary by which size you decide to go. Here's a good calculator to figure it out: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

I thought the stock tire size was 225/45/18 (atleast, that's what I have), so a lot of people recommend 245/40/18 when it's time to get new tires, as you will have more grip and only throw your speedometer off by 1%. They're not accurate from the factory anyway.

Not sure why you'd want to change to 215, but whatever. Those rims look good but also heavy. If you only use your car to drive around town then it doesnt matter, but if you are going to track it or like spirited driving, I reccomend a lighter weight rim.

Also, you didnt post any specs of the rim...

I will not change to 215 - but it was offered to me. I am not a racer - but if i feel the need for speed, the German Autobahn is just 10 minutes away. And yes - you can drive full speed!

 

I'll try to find out tomorrow. I don't think they are heavier than stock.

It is a little difficult to see in the photo - but they are black on the inside and have and the rim itself is silver.

Those are almost certainly heavier than stock fyi. Also I think the 2006 grey color was called Galaxy Grey. Give us some possible size/specs like offset and we can make sure you get the best possible look.

Most likely i'll go with 225/40R18 tires as it is the closest available to the original size.

if the wheel is 9 inches wide, you can go with at least a 245 tire, preferable a 255 and you can even go 265 comfortably. And 29 lbs is much heavier than stock. Stock is about 25 lbs I believe.

 

Those are pretty heavy rims (stock are 24 lbs), but as unsprung weight it only really matters if you're tracking the car.

225x40 is an odd size. As already cited with 9" rims you should go at least 245x40 and preferably 255x40.

 

Yes 245/40 and 255/40 are much closer to stock diameter than 225/40 and will look better on the wider rim.

I have heard bad things about Barracuda wheels, and they are very heavy:-(

 

If they weren't so heavy I would like them...they do look good, but weight is an issue on the track
