The wheel lock lug nut shattered.... half still remains on the wheel. ANY IDEAS on how the F to remove it

 

Take a hammer and beat the hell out of it.

 

i dont want to scrap the wheel..... but I need it off for sure!!!!

 

Which part remains? Does the remaining part completely encircle the stud? You might get a nut cracker and crack it (depends on how much is left. You can cut the nut off with a Dremel tool, you might be able to do this without damaging the stud. Worst case scenario if you damage the stud is to hammer out the stud remnant and replace the stud with a new one, no big deal. You can get a tool that may grab the remnant of the nut and allow you to remove it, it depends on the shape of what's left. I got a set at Sears it looks like a socket but it has whorled teeth inside instead of the standard hex shape.

 

Take it to a good tire/wheel shop.

Like JustJim said, there are sockets that are like an E-Z out. Assuming there is enough space outside the locking nut, these sockets will grip the outside.

You can buy them yourself (a brand name is Turbosocket), but without air tools, it's frustrating to use.

or if enough remains, hammer on a slightly smaller socket and ratchet off. Then get new locking nuts and key.

 

get a flat head screw driver and a hammer then slowly hammer it out!

If your doing it yourself. Get a torch and heat up the lug nut than try to use a punch/flat head and work it off. The heat will expand the metal making it so much easier to work off.

*edit Had to reword something.

21mm socket. torch and a impact gun is your friend. Only knock the socket on like 1/4 of a inch other wise your going to have a bitch of a time getting the lug out.

 

^haha lol thats funny. well I will take a pic with my cell phone when I step outside the office. the top of the lock is gone but the bottom half is still there

 

just another idea, if you have time - take it into the stealership. I was missing a lug nut and I went in there this AM, bought a nut for $7 and the techie took care of it, no charge, in less than 5 mins....

 

haha that's putting one on. he's trying to get one off. very different.

edit: i also lost a lug but the dealership gave me a new one for free and i even installed it myself! whoo!!

 

^oh - i was thinking don't you need a replacement one anyway?

 

the same thing happened to me when i was painting my calipers n i took it to a shop n they took them all for $15.

 

Get a deep socket and a hammer, pound that **** on and it should come off like normal.
