Anyone out there have the installation instructions for the spare tire mounting kit? I found one used (I think it has everything except bolts) and I would rather see how it attaches instead of guessing LOL! It will be here in a few days........

 

Although I didn't bother to install the mount, as it takes up allot of room and I only use the spare on long trips, here it is:

I agree it takes up alot of space and it may turn out to be more of a hassle, but it will be secure in the trunk.

 

I hope your not another missing bracket 'A' victim. Without that part you cannot do an OEM install.

Anyone out there have an "A" bracket for loan. I can make a bracket, but I need the dimensions to do it. I believe it will be easier for me to make the bracket then to find the bracket

If anyone has the brackets laying around and is willing to loan them to me so I can reproduce a pair, I would paypal an amount of money in good faith as colateral for the brackets safe return back to the original owner!
I checked with Mazda and the kit is no longer available.

 

I found I have the 'A' brackets (picture attachments aren't working for me at the moment, but the parts list in the install'n intrucs. has a rendering). PM me and we may be able to work out a fabrication loaner.

Although I never plan to mount my Spare I also don't want to break up the kit just for potential re-sale purposes.

btw: what I have done is to attach four strips of heavy duty hook-side velcro to my Spare tire cover and it grabs into the rear of the trunk carpet very nicely. Never had the spare shift in this configuration. Far better space savings than using the mount. I rarely have the spare in there anyway. Just consider, when was the last time you had a flat?

Thanks for the photo and the suggestions! I had a flat that stranded me on I-95 a couple of weeks ago, which has put me on this quest to make sure it never happens again. I had no spare and a hole the size of a silver dollar in the tire that blew.

I would like to mount my bar and leave the tire on the trunk floor using Velcro as you suggested when I am alone traveling in the car. My concern is when my 9 year old rides in the back seat and if I were to get rear ended what could happen with the spare tire. It appears that when it is mounted it is at an angle upwards, which could potentially be safer in a rear end collision than the tire laying flat becoming a force on the move toward the seat back. I would hate not putting forth the effort if something went wrong in a rear end collision.

It looks as though the brackets are identical in the picture. If they are and you are willing to send me 1 bracket so I can make 2, I will gladly pay for the shipping both ways and give you an amount of money to hold as collateral for it's safe return. I travel 3 to 4 thousand miles a month in my car and the space saving method of leaving the tire on the floor of the trunk is the way to go. I would like the extra security of being able to mount the tire if someone is in the back seat. Your help is greatly appreciated!

You are the kind of people that make up the label of a "Car Guy"! I am grateful and beyond thankful! I have not ventured into the install yet, the weekend was booked with other responsibilities. I will do the install next weekend after returning from my week in Virginia.

Yes, all it really does is keeps the spare from hitting that part. You can rig something else to preform the same function.
