In the same day I got new tires and went to a normal car wash. A few days later I noticed these spots on all 4 of my rims. I went to both the car wash and tire discounters to ask if they had something that would of caused it, of course both denied and had no clue how to get this off. Any ideas? They look like black water spots more than anything else. And you can NOT feel them. I've tried a few things like extremely hot water and dawn, goo gone, some oil and tar cleaner.

Try some Opps, or Goof Off cleaner give that a shot. If it doesnt worke acetone will def get that stuff off but it will remove your paint too. So if its on all the rims. I suggest look to order a new set of shoes or read the DIY on how to paint your rims and paint your rims yourself.

I just finished up painting my wheels this weekend. Wasn't too bad for a quick weekend paint job but its going to hold me over untill I can get them powdercoated this winter.

You could try a Mothers' powerball and their wheel polish. It worked wonders on my daughter's tarnished Mazda6 rims.

 

did they put brake cleaner on it?

 

It does look like they sprayed on some pre-wash wheel cleaner and then it bled brake dust/grease onto the wheels and it subsequently dried.

It should polish off, tho' it may take quite some effort. How much effort did you save going to the car wash????

Effort? Well, there are 35 steps from where i park up to the side of the house where the hose is, plus its not long enough to reach to where I would wash it.

 

It looks like somemone at the car wash sprayed wheel cleaner (aluminum) acid on your wheels. It has etched the wheel. Most acid type wheel cleaners etch the "bare" aluminum surface and remove any discoloration. But if it's put on "painted wheels" which stock RX8 wheels are. It will etch the paint.
Sorry this happened. I would be at the car wash bitching at them. Saying why did someone spray wheel acid on my painted rims. More than likely to no avail.
I would try some type of polishing compound. NOT rubbing compound. If that doesn't work, your only alternative may be to have the wheels repainted.

 

How much are you going to now pay vs. buying another length of hose... but I digress.

Again, give the Mothers' Powerball (for an electric drill) and their wheel polish a try. Nothing to lose at this point.

I agree with the car wash acidic cleaner scenario, the other similar possibilty is dog urine (DNA analysis may lead to the culprit). Either way your only recourse is buffing/polishing or repainting.
