This was too easy and too cool of a trick to not share it on the Discussion. It is posted in the Interior forum section too. After thinking of doing the center console covers with leather and padding , I thought outside the box and then discovered going from the opposite approach was the answer
Now it is padded well, comfortable for those non racing commutes and long drives and it looks stock because it is from the outside.
A double stitched leather cover would be great but the stock 2008 cover looks good as it is. And this fix costs 5 cents or less and takes 5 minutes.
