Mazda Sent Me An Offer to Be Paid $150 to Have 8 "Emission Tested"

The letter basically states I'll be paid $150, I will get a 2010 "new model" Mazda to drive (delivered to my home) while my 8 is being tested, etc., etc.

This isn't junkmail - it's a legitimate letter from Mazda N.A. telling me I was randomly selected to participate in this program so Mazda can cull emissions data.

First, I would never let some shop I don't know use my 8 for a period that is not specified. I don't know how hard they will be on it, and it says right in the letter that the car will have to be put on a dyno for extended periods of time.

If Mazda extended my factory bumper-to-bumper warranty and/or my powertrain warranty, I may consider something like this, as that would alleviate any concern I would have that if something was damaged during this testing, I'd be covered.

$150 isn't going to pay for much if they ream on my car and it develops a mechanical problem down the road as a result.

Has anyone else received one of these letters?

yeah i got one from my dealer about 6 months ago and i actually thought about it coz i was gonna sell my car when i got my new camaro but they offered me 3k plus employee discounts on all future services so i went in and read their fine print and it stated stuff like

- i will not be allowed at any time within the 2 month period to view or check the car
- i will not hold mazda responsible for any wear and tear incurred during testing
- i will not abuse the vehicle provided to me
- i will bring the vehicle back in the same condition it left or they will hold my car till i do!

WTF GO **** YOURSELVES is what i said for 3k i would never do it let alone 150 bucks

2 MONTHS???!!!!!!!!!

I thought this was going to be for a couple of days?

And they wanted you to release them for wear and tear incurred during testing? What does that even really mean, since this is a high stress test, the car being strapped to a dyno, and ran hard for long periods of time, I assume?

So they offered you a $3,000 discount on a new Mazda purchase over AND above employee pricing if you did this?

Sorry for all the questions, but it doesn't say that in the letter I received.

yeah 300 on a new mazda if i purchased within the next 6 months and employee pricing ONLY on services at the dealership not on the car.

according to them they would have to drive the car for a period of a month to assure its in working order and ideal for the test THEN strap it to the dyno ...

Unless you are hard up for $150, I'd pass.

Well, the only part of all of that that I don't have a problem with is "You will not abuse your loaner". Fortunately, driving the 8 like you stole it isn't considered abuse. Just preventative maintenance. If it was a few days, and I could be there for it, I'd do it. But not out of my sight.

They're only offering a $150 payment, 'new' loaner car, and wash.

The time it takes to do this is 1 to 2 weeks. They said between 80 and 100 miles, only, will be put on the car.

The car actually sits much of the time, in an enclosed structure, to gauge outgassing and such.

A Mazda rep is only present to do a 5 mile test drive, on a track, to judge vehicle performance.

There is no way in hell I'm doing this. The incentives would have to be way higher to bother with such an inconvenience.

Bad Mazda.

i got offered this some time ago as well. screw that. no way. the tidbit that gets me more then the 2 month part and the insulting $150 offered is "i will not hold mazda responsible for any wear and tear incurred during testing". That doesn't make me wanna surrender my car for 2 months..lol

I got this letter and I wasn't sure that it was legit. After reading all the comments, I'm glad I tossed it out! The only nice part was to have a 2010 RX-8 to drive around for free.

well on the bright side of things it appears there is something good to come in the future.

i would not think they would be concerned about emissions if they were not planning something. rx9?

mmmm those new Camero's are sick! I drove an SS with a re-tune putting 489hp on a dyno and that thing was amazing. If I had the spare cash and a place for it I think a Camero would compliment my 8 nicely haha.
