Mazdaspeed RX-8 showcased in toyko

Geez I hope they don't come out with this too soon. I don't want to upgrade before I have the first one broken in! it looks SWEET though. No specs yet but there's a pic.

I think that I’m calling my dealership tomorrow to see if that $500.00 deposit they are holding for my rx8 can be used for a Mazdaspeed rx8?

Hi ZoomZoom,

Before you get too excited, realize that Mazda is showing the Mazdaspeed RX-8 as a "reference exhibit" not as a "planned production car".

Do you remember how long its been since the RX-Evolv concept car? Even with MDI cutting development time, it will be awhile...

I’m telling you Herc, the wait would probably kill me. I’ve had my deposit down since April 8/02. But could you imagine?

I have to admit though that the rx8 has plenty of power for me also.

There is no way my present car would survive that long. Maybe I could least the rx8 until the Mazdaspeed version is available… :D

Well then save yourself the added cash (not to mention insurance money) and buy yourself somethin nice

Keep in mind that a car that looks like that roaming MY streets would be sure to be messed with... besides if it looks that ricey I won't buy it. The RX-8 looks elegant and sporty which is why I like it; I don't like 'riced' up vehicles like the Evo and STi and now the MPS RX-8.. I'd rather let it be riced by the owner than the company.

You are right!

It’s been already an eight month wait for me and I guess that I am not thinking straight.

A more civilizaed MPS RX-8 would be something I will be putting a deposit on... The picture is just a concept... I am more interested in the mechanical aspects rather than the "look"

If they get rid of the wing it won't look so bad. The black wheels are a bit much too.

Lightbulb

I can already hear the horrid sound it will make when that front air splitter gets munched turning into my rather steep driveay apron!

Personally, I'm a big fan of Ford SVT's phillosphy of building a car: increase power, braking, and handling ability, but keep the exterior modifications tasteful and low-key, including making the rear wing an option. That body kit can only add weight to the car. How about making the Mazdaspeed RX-8 an exercise in REDUCING weight? If they could bring out even only 280 HP but somehow manage to chop 100-150 pounds off the curb weight, that would be really something.

But the RX sure looks great in silver, doesn't it?

I'm not too familiar with mazdaspeed, but I would think any asthetic mods would be available through them for existing rx-8s if they were to make a mazdaspeed right? or even if not. at least in terms of the body kit.

I mean from the looks of it all they really did is put a body kit on it, maybe changed the exhaust, tweaked a few things, and stripped the interior and redid it (you can see the different seats very clearly in a thread called something like 'silver rx-8 w/bodykit')

I can't see this car having a huger performance boost unless they somehow made it forced induction.

Mazdaspeed traditionally has been a line of add-on components for Mazda vehicles. The RX-7 had a number of different body kits, wheels, shift *****, steering wheels, etc. available for it. In Japan, you could purchase Mazdaspeed products at the dealership and have them installed on the car with a warranty and everything.

Will there be a Mazdaspeed edition of the RX-8? Maybe. Will Mazdaspeed make a lineup of bolt-on body and performance parts? Definitely.

Remember, too, Mazdaspeed stuff is all very high quality, but has traditionally been rather pricey.

I wouldn't wait for the Mazdaspeed RX-8 - it's a REAL leap of faith that it would ever be developed. Pick out an RX-8 with what you want, and later on as aftermarket components become available modify it the way YOU want it to be.

Currently, the expectation is 300+hp w/o FI.

300+hp

man, with that added power and a little wieght reduction, we would be looking at 9lbs/hp. that and added handling mods would make the mazdaspeed rx8 impressive.

any guestimations yet on the price?

oh, nevermind about the price, just realized, not considered production yet

*drool* I think i'll will be waiting for that if it goes into production.:D The only thing that would worry me is what iWANTanRx8 said about the front air splitter smashing off on gigantic speedbumps which are everywhere where I live.

And mind you, that is not the same Mazdaspeed concept that was displayed in the Tokyo Auto show.
