Question about odd things on the car's body

I'm sure this has been addressed, but I have no idea what to search for. So...

What are the bits of raised plastic near the rear wheel wells and below the rear doors? They look like they're vestigial rear brake coolers that have grown over with plastic. Is this some hold over to a jap option or some kind of mounting surface for the aero kit?

It's clear bra material that is there to prevent rock chips. I guess maybe that area is prone to them?

^^ what he said.

i believe one of the forum members took them off his 8 and regretted it because it left a silhouette and the clear bra really did help with rock chips. which unfortunately he found out the hard way lol.

That's the stuff. Thanks guys. I noticed it and didn't know if it was stuck on or some raised part on the plastic.
