Unhappy I'm Still Rubbing!!!

So I installed my 5zigen fn01r's last night. They're 18x9.5's in the back with a 35 offset and i'm still rubbing after rolling my fenders as thin as they could go. I'm not sure if its the fender liner or what. The rubbing isn't terrible but I can hear it when I hit bumps and I can see it on the tires. So I don't want to keep driving with it like this. Any help is appreciated!!!

Heres some specs that may help: Car is dropped with H&R springs and stock struts. Drop is about 1.5 inches. The wheels stick out of the fenders by about a quarter of an inch, but clears the top of the fenders (where you can roll) just fine.

there's your problem. you need to get some more camber and work on the fenders some more to get those to fit.

get some blue tape and tape it around your fender to find out where you are rubbing.

when you got the fenders rolled, did you flare the edge that meets the bumper?

check your rear fender liner, it may be rubbing that on rebounds. if it is, it may also be rubbing the tab that bolts the bumper to the fender.

That's a good idea. I'm not sure if i did. I think I stopped rolling at that part because I was hitting the brakes.
I think it may be rubbing on the fender liner, if it is, how would i fix that?

you'd have to cut the backside of the liner. its a little hard to explain. essentially if it is rubbing there it will be shredding the plastic. use your judgment to find out where to cut. maybe if you can, find a way to jack the wheel up into the car and you'll see it's touching the back side of the liner.

now if it is also hitting the tab of the fender or bumper, your going to have to shave those as well or roll it a little.

Ok, well I'll have the car jacked tomorrow to install my side skirts. So I'll take a look at it then. I was planning on cutting the liner anyway, so i'm really hoping it's that.

My rear tires are 275/30/20 and my rims are 20x9.5 with a offset of 45. I had my inner fenders rolled and have no problems with rubbing even with a heavy load of stuff in my trunk. Also my car is not lowered but with all the weight in the back from me moving it lowers the rear still with no problems over bumps. Hope this helps out...

Oh also I see you have a offset of 35 remember the lower the offset the more your wheel will stick out...

Ok thanks so much guys for all the help. I'll let you know if I have any problems today, after cutting the fender liner.

Tiltmode, I'll hit you up if I can't fix it, thanks so much for the offer, it really means a lot.

Rather than cut the liner just take the rear portion out if anything (the top carpet part won't cause rubbing). What color is the rub on your wheels - a black plastic-y substance or is it the same color as your car? Also, when does it rub?

Hey, do you have a roller or did you rent it?

I'm willing to bet that you're rubbing against the tab where the fender bolts to the rear bumper. That connecting tab protrudes straight out. You'll see it if you cut away a portion of the plastic liner.

I'm with RA-Eight's call too.

I was rubbing my rears too and after my metal fenders were rolled flat I found the rubbing was actually from the plastic liner of the rear bumper. I took a rasp/file and a knife to cut away some of the plastic but I still get a little bit of rubbing when I have a heavy load or drive hard through a corner. It's wearing away, little by little....

So I cut the part of the fender liner last night and then my dad took a body hammer to the metal behind it to thin it out a little and now i'm not rubbing!

Before I was rubbing when I went over bumps while turning going 20mph+ but now it seems to be fine. Maybe a little rub here and there, but I can live with that.

Tiltmode, I went to a Miata meet and had some of the guys there help me out with it, haha. And I just their roller. Those guys were good with rolling since they're always putting 15x8's on their Miatas.

my best bet is you are running not enough camber (less then 1.5 i'll say) and you're rubbing the plastic part by the screw where you mount the bumper to the rear quarter panel.

i'd like to see pics since most around here with 9.5" wheels use a 45mm offset.
