100,000 miles

So, it has been accomplished. I hit 100,000 miles today. I think that is quite a milestone. It sure has been a fun 100,000 miles. We've been through a lot together, but she still makes me smile. I'm proud of my ol' lady.

I know I'm not the first by far, and I know there are several other threads I could of just added on to, but I thought I deserved my own!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Trip to 100,000

When I first got my car I was a little crazy. I was, for the most part, a safe driver But I had my share of less than smart moves. For example, my 142mph test pass. I did on occasion race a buddy of mine, and I for sure took every corner like it was taunting me. I have gradually slowed down over the last 4 years. I am actually a very mild driver now. Most of the time I'm getting honked at and passed by family sedans and SUV's. But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy performance driving. I just put it in it's place, and don't impose it on the other drivers on the road around me.

I haven't been the crazy maintenance freak some people are on here. No offense to those people, I think that is a compliment. But, I was very adamant about keeping up with the car.

All maintenance was performed by myself.
I did nothing extraordinary.

**************************
ONLY premium unleaded fuel.

Oil filters:
Typical Bosch filters. Although the first 4 were Nipon filters, which seemed better quality. I will probably go back to those in the future. I just have to remember.
Performed roughly by the book. Many times a little sooner, but I was a stickler about it.

Oil:
Castrol GTX 5w 20
Keep 'er topped off

Intake Filter:
GREEN drop-in filter.

Spark Plugs:
NGK plugs.

Gear oil:
Redline 75W 90.
This was actually a really nice change. Although, when the tranny is cold it is a very jerky ride until it is warmed up a little. Performed at ~75k miles. (I know someone on here wants to shoot me.)

Tires:
Bridgestone Potenzas, Kumho SPT, Bridgestone Potenzas, Yokohoma YK520 (current)
Honestly, my favorite has been the Yokohoma. The Potenzas had better performance, but not enough to justify the ride difference and price. For me at least.

Brake Pads:
Hawk Performance Street Pad

Front Rotors:
PowerSlot Slotted Brake Rotors.

Items fixed under warranty:
Battery (2), Gas Cap, Thermostat, Motor Mounts, Starter

Things I've dodged on the street while driving my 8 to 100,000:
People, Entertainment Center, 8' Extension Ladder, mattress, Coffee Table, Boxes, Tires, RoadKill, Other Cars, Refrigerator, Hand cart.......

Things I've hit on the street while driving my 8 to 100,000:
Dog, Curb, tire iron, Rear-end of a Ford F-150 ext. cab - Repaired

Things I need to work on still:
COILS <--- gots to be done soon
Brakes / Wheel Bearings ? <--under investigation
Fuel Pump / Filter

If I could do it again, I would probably keep a log book of things I did, and I would probably be more strict about my maintenance mainly because I admire those who do,and it couldn't hurt. it could only make it better.

of course now, you have to tell us your secret! What brand oil and weight did/do you use? How did you do your maintenance? What other things did you do? How reliable was it? Any repairs?

lots of inquiring minds want to know!!

No,I don't see a need for this quite yet. Oil consumption seems to be consistent and sufficient. If I ever doubt or worry I will start Premix.

I use 5w20 because I'm up in Wisconsin.
But wow, 5w20 in Texas, that's very impressive, I guess Mazda North America had some clue when they gambled on 5w20 recommendation in effort to raise EPA mileage rating, not completely clueless as we all thought.

Lost mine at 109000 miles!

Just turned over 109000 miles when a 16 year old girl slammed into me with a big Toyota SUV while I was sitting in traffic a few weeks ago.
I had planned on keeping this car forever.

It was Lightning Yellow, so it was a pain finding another one to replace it. I live in Missouri, had the wreck in Chicago and finally found a replacement, yellow again, in Wisconsin.

I'm back working in Chicago and have it at Pugi Mazda right now getting it checked out, andserviced. I guess the best part is this one only has 31000 on it, so I've got a lot of driving left to do.

This is the only car I've ever owned, age 55, that I absolutely had to replace.

Always used Castrol 5w20 and followed normal maintenance.

Enjoy all, you never know when someone might take your car away.

That would be a hard decision IF I could have afforded more. For example, if I could have afforded a 3-series, I might have bought that. I was always a big BMW fan. But of course I was also a big RX7 fan.

Also consider when I bought the car I couldn't afford a sports car on my insurance. But the Rx8 is considered a four door four cylinder.

So the answer would most likely be yes. Although knowing now that at some point financial stability would be a term most of the world can't use, I might not have.

Silly insurance companies... and you're lucky there. Mine took a look at it, and said "2 door coupe, sports car". My poor wallet..
