Question Low level coolant warning light

Hi!

I have an interesting problem. My car is a 04 MT.
Sometimes I get (totally randomly) the red coolant warning light on the dashboard.
It happens mostly in curves/downhills with higher speed. After 5-7 sec the light just disappears.
The car doesn't have any other problem, the coolant in the reservoir tank is on the highest level (it doesn't change) and the coolant is clean - I mean there isn't any oil there. I just had an oil change, and the oil was clean aswell.

My engine just has been replaced (under warranty), but I have this problem with the previous engine too. I drove the car with the new engine for ~1500 miles only. I didn't use it above 4500 rpms (and above 3000 before 700 miles).

Is it the sensor's fault?

Thanks for the help!

Marcika

If you don't think you're low on coolant it very well could be the sensor.

You got a 04. so its most likely just a faulty sensor.

Its a very well-known problem.

like quazmosis said, if you're positive your coolant level is right you can just ignore it.

or if you hate the light so much you dont ever want to see it again, you can just disconnect the sensor. it will never show up again.

It is a bit above the "F" mark. (when the engine is completely cool)

then its fine.

a tad over the F line is fine. but I seen some dumbass (not on a 8) filled his overflow tank all the way to the top and he was wondering why his car overheats ...

Thanks for the advices!

The light is very annoying but I don't want to disconnect the sensor. Yet.

It seems I have to ask the dealer to replace the sensor.
Do you know how much does it cost? (approximately)

marcika,
About $210 US - you have to buy the entire reservoir which has the sensor built into it. They do not sell the sensor alone. I had to replace mine.

Just something else to observe that is totally normal, coolant expands and contracts...in other words when my car is fully hot and I turn engine off the coolant level shows about 1 cm (3/8 ths inch) over the "F" mark or line, once the car is stone cold it shows on the FULL mark or line....it expands and contracts.

So, if you are topping off your coolant, do so when your engine is stone cold (the safest way also with no pressure in the system) and only to the "F" mark of line.

I have a brand new coolant overflow tank thats collecting dust.

I can sell it to you if you want, but of course you have to pay all shipping

Im sure it will be cheaper than 400 Euro ...

I asked my friend to get me one. It seems it will be around 200$. But not for sure.
If it will be much more expensive, I would be interested to buy your one. Of course I would pay for everything.

Thanks in advance!
