ID need advice on suspension

i need to replace my shocks all around and figured i would just replace everything with aftermarket and lower my car a little while i am at it. i don't really know too much about suspension and how everything works, so i need as much advice as possible. my driving style is mostly street with the occasional race and autocross.

maybe let me know what you are running on your cars.

tein stechs on tociko d-spec shocks...

I dont recommend the Koni yellows as im sure some will suggest because they are a low pressure gas shock and will actually cause the car to sit lower than the springs advertise.

My suggestion would be to get some coilovers, there's something for every budget. I have Cuscos w/ electronic damping control module and I love them. They're not too harsh on pothole infested roads and highways. T

I think a full coilover system might be a bit overkill for what he's going to use it for. and as far as coilovers go, a lot of the cheaper ones have a reason for a cheap price, i only know of one company that you get great quality for not a whole lot of money.

Maybe, only reason I suggested them was the springs and shocks are better matched to work together and he can tweak the car when he hits the racetrack or the autocross.

Absolutely, But from the sound of it, he's not looking to be competitive.

i would probably have to pull out the manual to do any adjustments. im not very mechanically inclined. im a painter, not a mechanic. i don't know what the difference between the two setups you guys keep mentioning is.

Never fear, Jedi is here!!

I typically recommend members NOT go with coilover systems as theyr'e much more expensive, some of the 'cheaper' coiloves aren't as good as properly matched strut / spring combo, AND most people do not need that level of adjustability.

take a look at this thread by a former Vendor here: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-wheels-tires-brakes-suspension-55/spring-rates-other-basic-suspension-info-79096/

I have Tein S-Techs and Koni struts: LOVE the combo.

I had S techs and D specs before I put coilovers. It was a nice combo for a dd.
