My First Wreck

So I had my first accident today...and it happened to be in my RX8.

Let me begin this with, I got laid off from work 3 weeks ago and have not heard any positive responses on employment. So this could not have come at a more inconvenient time.

Then I got into this accident today. Not a lot of damage, but my car is old and has lots of miles. So I don't it is worth a whole lot.

What do you think? Totaled? (Assume no mechanical damage)

Who was at fault? That makes a big difference. If you have insurance let them pay for it if it was your fault. Doesn't look that bad.

Sorry about the job, mate. Good luck on finding one.

It really looks like nothing more than a cosmetic problem. What did you run into? Rear end? I doubt it's totaled, but if it's too costly to get fixed, would probably be best to trade it in for something fairly old and easy/cheap to repair.

I was thinking between the hood and the bumpers and alll the grille pieces smashed between and the bottom ground effect thing and paint it is probably 3k in damage. Add in labor and other little pieces, it could be 5K in damage?

It was my fault. Traffic came to a quick stop and the guy in front of me hit his brakes and came to a fast stop and my reaction time was just a tad too slow and I couldn't stop in time and I rear-ended him. I will have to file with my insurance, but the deductible is kind of high. it's just not the kind of thing you need when your living on savings anyway.

I've had like 3 front end crashes (none my fault) the bumper is roughly $500 for paint and everything, as well as the hood, the fenders are cheaper, and idk if oyu need this, but headlights are $425? and you probably hurt the intake, my whole front got smashed once. but doesn't look that bad. No way it's totaled

Honestly, I think you'll walk needing a new hood and bumper. You might try buying a used one off forum guys, I saw a BB hood on sale yesterday for $150. You could make it out pretty cheap assuming theres no internal damage.

Hey thanks, I'll keep that in mind. We'll see what they find.

Damn man, sorry to hear about the accident =/.

On the bright side, you can get a bumper/hood combo for about $500 w/o labor if you look hard enough.

No its 250 for front bumper and 200 bucks or more for the hood. Plus labor and paint.

Easy cheap fix.

Now's the time to upgrade to MS front bumper and different hood.

Visa time. Insurance will pay tou for stock parts, just use that allocated money to the new bumper and hood you want. You pay the difference plus deductable.

That tow truck guy on the 4th picture looks suspect. I don't trust him. He had somethnig to do with all of this.

Nice to see when people take responsibility. I respect that. Hope you get it all worked out, and they treat you fairly on the settlement or getting your car fixed.

If you can't afford to get the bumper painted immediately if you buy one of a different color, you can always band-aid it with a front bra. It's a temporary solution i used a few years ago when i had a fender bender. The hood you should be able to find around dallas. put out a wtb thread in the f/s section or mention something in your regional thread. someone will help you out. Keep your chin up.

I did a quick search, and here are a few parts to consider:

teamrx8. not the same color, but he’s a good guy and can get the hood and bumper to you quick

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...highlight=hood
black hood and bumper. Hood needs repainted

SS hood local to you

Sorry for you bad luck. I hope everything works out great.

Is there any reason why you didn't drive it home? If I was in a tight bind then it would be time for some homemade dent removing and zip tying till I could afford to fix it correctly.

Doesn't look too bad to me. Certainly not bad enough to be totaled. My first and only accident I totaled my car. Good luck.

From the pictures, only front bumper and hood. shouldnt be THAT much to fix. Buy them used/painted already and install them yourself. Save $$

yea seems like theres been a lot recently. I have a theory more accidents happen between march and may then any other time but i might be wrong. My accident was caused by poor planning on my part. I kept with my same all seasons that have ~40k miles on them, assuming we wouldnt get any more storms. We've gotten a huge snow storm every weekend for the past month it seems lol.

Right now my rx-8 is buried in snow up to the roof at my buddies house in black forest. I was stuck there for 3 days thanks to this blizzard. It doesn't help that my car is so close to the palmer divide right now lol.
