Nope, no Photoshop here. I’m trying a product that’s made for changing interior color. I wanted to try it on a part that was easy to remove, would get some “contact” on it to test for color fading and not to expensive to replace in case it didn’t work out. So I chose the arm rest, center console sliding/tipping cover.

I’m very pleased with the color share and the look. I really didn’t think it would turn out near this good. I’m going to try and be patient before applying this to any other parts. I want to give this time to show how well it will last. But patience isn’t one of my strong points either.

So here’s some pictures in indoor and outdoor light. Let me know what you think.

Unfortunately, it's hard do judge color over a photo (we all have learned that already with our cars). Looks too light to me but you know...

 

I think you done a good job matching the colour, but it is hard to judge it just by the armrest. Maybe if you done a little more, for example, changing the seats, steering wheel and shift **** with Photoshop? just my 0.02

 

I am stuck with the crappy taupe interior in a MUST have black RX-8. If this product works on the seats, I want to know more, like what, where, how much.

Looks cool imo, how about doing the door inserts like in the black / red cars , this should give the appearance of a larger brighter interior .

You're sure not a poser for my wife right. :D Actually the real problem was the blue tint on the garage floor. Blue-er than before anyway. But luckily the epoxy paint washed it away with this afternonns washing.

As for the "paint", it's a "dye" and you can find more information on it here. It's the same company that makes the caliper paint that Tirerack sells.

My intention is to put it on very similar to the factory interior colors. I just want to make sure it's not crappy. I'd hate to replace door panels, arm rest covers, seats, etc. just to fix it if it goes bad after so long. But like I said I'm not necessarly a patient guy. So I'll wait until next year ... like Jan 2nd or so. Actually I need to get a manual to determine proper ways to disassemble the parts in question. I'd hate to break anything taking apart parts I don't understand ... again.

Dyed it with the stuff I listed up the thread. I took the "8" to a local trim shop that I've used before and known gor excellent work at a low prices. They quoted me $1800 to blue the interior. That included replacing leather seating surfaces with a vinyl colored material. He said the leather replacement would be even more. So I decided to look for other options.

Part of the confustion might be that i choose a piece that doesn't come red in the red interior. Although I beleive I have seen where you can purchase it that way after market.

 

Am I the only one that likes the way the RX8 is out the box? I won't do anything. No funky wings, bodykits, weird paint schemes, nada. The wildest I'll ever go is the factory appearance package and rear spoiler. I like my plain-jane black cloth interior and spoiler-less exterior.


--------but, if you wanna do your interior over that's fine. It's your ride. It actually looks like it could be factory. If you mimic the stock red/black interior scheme in blue, it'd be cool.

 

I love the rx8 right out of the box

but things can always be improved and modified to look better and be stronger

Nope you're not the only one.

For me, if I could have gotten a blue interior like the red or carmel, I would have done whatever it took to get it. So instead I'm just working my way toward it. My plan is to follow the red/carmel coloring closely. But not exactly.

By the way, the dye manufacture's stance on using it with leather pieces is yes and no. That's the word I got from whomever answered the phone. When I asked to talk to the person that she was asking the questions too while she put me on hold, she said no one else was there ...... I'll call back after the holidays. But like I said, I'm not necessarly patient. So I tried a small leather piece. Lighting is bad here making it look way light. Should have included some blue panels for comparision.

Take a look at this photo.

You can see based on lighting, it can be much darker. And this includeds some body panels as well for a color point of reference.



Now look at this one.

It looks as light as the most recent picture but you can see body panels again that look just as light.

As pointed out previously in this thread, color on a pic can vary widely. I think the only acurate way to see the color in a pic is to have both colors in the same light in the same pic. That's why I tried until the last one to include sheet metal. I'll see if I can fins a way to safly place these pieces on the hood in the sun for a good comparision. Seeing them in person, I think it's as solid of a match as the red interior is to its counterpart.

 

Yeah it just to hard to tell from a pic. I bet it looks so much better in person. I painted some of the interior trim in my silver 2001 civic. My buddy works at a body shop and mixed some factory silver for me. It turned out really good. I thought I might try to do the same thing again.
