300zx

So when I paid my mechanic a visit today, he had a red 300zx (Z32) sitting there. I ask him what it was doing there and apparently a person had some work done on the car ($2500 NZD) and couldn't pay so walked away. He is quite keen on selling the car. It's an autotragic but its a 2+2 convertible and TWIN TURBO~~
stupid of me, I didn't look at the mileage yet, nor have I test drove it, but it's in perfect working condition. All the courtesy cars the mechanic has drives like a dream. Theres a 1980's Capella with 270.000k (kilometres) on it and it drives better than a new corolla.

Anyway!! What do you guys think of the 300? Is it worth the money (turbo still needs tuning so it will come to about $5000 NZD (that's around $2500 USD)

I'm not really bothered to go to 300zx forums because I have no understanding of the 300 at all and I'm only using it as a DD without any plans for mods.

Any problems I need to be careful of?

My son has a 90 300zx 2 seater. It doesn't have the turbo. He paid $2000 US a year ago. It's reasonably quick. It doesn't handle as well as the RX8.

I love this style Z. I believe on stock internals, hp tops out at around 400whp (reliable hp anyways), which is plentiful. Anything much more than that requires upgrading internals, but i THINK its an iron block so it pretty strong. Dontr quote me on that but is heresay from a Nissan guy, so....

Cool car though, i say get it!

$2500 for the entire car? I would be tempted to go for it, especially considering it's just had a bunch of work done to it.

I looked into getting a 300zxtt a number of years ago, and the overall consensus was that it's decently reliable car, but when something does eventually break, it's EXPENSIVE. But again, since this car is already sorted I think it would probably make a great DD.

I was thinking "they didn't make a 300ZX TT 2+2" but I googled it, and that car was produced but never imported or sold in the US. Guess I was kind of right...

friend in HS had one.. one of the better cars in our podunk town at the time... not much room for a 6'3"er in there though. I was pretty tight for leg and head room.

Try posting that on my350Z.com and you will receive the full wrath of the VQ35HR and fat-tires thrown at you.

one of my good friends has a '96 300ZX Twin Turbo, and I have driven it quite a few times. He's done some mods, chip, exhaust, but the thing really flies. Has a great pull throughout every gear. It's one of the quickest cars I've driven. His dad bought it when it was new and its mint with 19k Mi. on the odo.

for 2500 I would say def go for it.

those cars are sweet, if you have the means buy it, if nothing else you could just hang on to it for a while and probably turn a profit down the road a bit.

Wait I pm'ed you, is a 2+2 vert? that doesn't exist. Also what year is it? Sorry you can pm back or whatever.

I assume it must be a 2+2 t-top right? They made a top down vert(2 seater) and a t-top(2+2 or 2 seater). I dont know if NZ got a TT vert or TT 2+2 but the US never did. That is assuming we are talking about 90-99 z32's(97-99 outside of US, it stopped production in 96 here).

I need pics and facts, I am confused a little.

I am guessing its a 2+2 t-top. They never made a 2+2 convertible. They never made a 2+2 TT in the US but I am sure they offered it in NZ. If you can post the year and mileage.

This is my t-top...

A friend in california's convertible that I shot a pic of while driving(notice the huge ugly saftey bar...

Another friends who made there own wide body from there backyard with my Z to show the differences...

my mom's bf has the car silver, t-top, manual, 2+2 the works. its alot of fun on the highway but it also gets not so great mpg, also it doesnt handle as well as the rx8 but loads more power. the back seats are barely useable by normal size adults... IMO if you want power and speed 300zx, if not then keep the rx8

Yea sorry its a 2+2 T top 1989(according to seat belt) auto TT Z. Imported from Japan. $2500USD for it, the tuner put all the engine brakes and suspension back 3 months ago. 4 New tyres and dyno tuning for the twin turbo which weren't kicking in before.

not many people know me yet, I do not have an RX-8 yet, will be only getting one next year. I have been a rotary fan for around 6 years though and I'm only 17. This 300zx(If I get it) is my post-van(I currently drive a van...gay) and pre-rx8 car, although I will be keeping it even when I do get an 8.

BTW mpg isn't my concern, my van gets 9mpg city driving, so no complaints from me.

On a small note the photo of the diablo in your sig actually uses 300zx headlights, they copied the 300zx's lights after the car was out, pretty sad that a lambo did that but it happens occasionally.

Also, the first 2 year of the z32(90/91) or 89 which is a 90 have the injector issues, atleast in the US thanks to good old 10% ethanol in our gas. A fuel rail swap and injector swap resolves it (with a ecu upgrade), gets pricey though.

Gotta get to work now.
