front license plate

hey guys im new to this site. I've had my 8 for two years now the first thing I did when I got the car home was take the Front license plate off. i hate how it makes the car look. here in california its a ticket to not have one. im willing to to get pulled over and make up an excuse for why its missing any one else?

I live in CT, and it supposed to be a ticket, but I have been pulled over but never repremanded for the lack of one. That rule is more of something they use to boost the ticket if the cop really doesnt like you. But then, if you drive in a manner that doesnt warrant any other type of ticket, you never have an issue

Sucks because I got a ticket for mine after my second warning... & this time I listened. About a week later I saw the same cop that ticketed me as I was coming off the highway he was making a left turn saw my car and gave me the thumbs up!

Good thing or he'd have given me another ticket!

If I recall correctly, it is illegal to pull an individual over solely for the lack of a front plate. I've been plateless for 3+ years now...

You got pulled over three times in one day specifically and only for having no front plate? Either way, that is ridiculous!

I remember reading the information on it and deduced its because it is not a moving infraction nor endangering. I'll see if I can find the text where I read that they cannot pull you over specifically and only for that.

Yeah, I kept getting pulled over in my area as well. I always told the cops that my license plate bracket broke off, so I'm just waiting for the dealership to send me a new one. Works like a charm!

that is exactly what i tell them. i just tell them that someone backed up into my car and broke the plate holder. it works 95% of the time.

I live in CA too, and I also took off my front license plate. Looks so much better. Anyway, got a parking ticket and the cop wrote it in front of me, saw i didn't have a front plate, and walked around to the back. No ticket. Take a look around next time you drive, about 70% of cars out here don't have front plates. I wouldn't worry about it.

I got my 8 used and there was no brace on the front to put my plates. When I did get my plates i placed one on my dash against the windshield so it's still visible. Have been stopped yet. Even a cop on a bike next to me at a red light didn't even say anything when he looked at it. I live in Houston, Tx.

I been pulled many times, if nothing comes up they say something about the plate. Once i got targeted for tint, had taken it off but was pulled. I ask what was problem he said no plate up front. Then he proceeds to ask if he could check windows for tint, yet you could clearly see it wasn't tinted. Then later says that car does look better with out it, but if i'm out one night and had a few drinks. They will stop me for the plate and then catch me with whatever else i have. I proceeded to laugh cause i'm only 19 and can't drink. He was pretty cool, young guy too.

BTW still dont have one, wont drill into my MS front. no way

Not sure about CA, but in TX you can be stopped solely for the missing front plate. TX law states vehicles must have a LP on the front and rear of the vehicle. Some folks put one on their dash, but it really doesnt satisfy the requirement.

You may get pulled over for it, because it's easy PC (probable cause for the stop), but most cops wont write ya unless youre really being an ***. (At least the guys I work with wont write it) Personally, I like the look, and I removed my own LP from the front of my 8. Of course I understand I run the risk of being stopped, and I accept that.

Lastly, dont forget in TX, you can be arrested for any transportation violation except for open container and speeding. So, if you're being a turd, or if we just want to get in your car and search, you can be arrested for the no front LP. Tons of folks dont have one, and nobody really enforces it, so its like an "ace" up your sleeve if you really want to arrest someone and have no other offense.

I had mine off for a year and a half with no tickets. Of course, I rarely park on the street. Last month I did and, sure enough, I got a ticket… $65. Still, over a year a half, that only came to about a dollar a week. A small price to pay to go front plateless, no?

in CA, and especially in LA, meter maids are pretty vigilant about front license plates. they write tickets up the wazoo for them, i suspect just 'cuz they can. i think there are waves when they write more than usual for them probably 'cuz they get some kind of memo to enforce the law. i think it's ridiculous and annoying, and i think meter maids are trolls, but after getting several fix-it-tickets i grew tired of paying them bogus money. if you live in the suburbs, tho, and you have garage/parking, it's not that big of a deal. otherwise, be prepared to pay

why dont you guys just "fix" it for one day. get it written off and pay 5 buks?
ive been stopped MANY time just for tint or no front plate. it seems just like the officer above said. there ace in the hole to pull you over or just something to add to the ticket.

What makes it illegal?

If the law states that a motor vehicle must have a front plate, and it doesn't, what makes it illegal for a cop to give you a ticket?

I was pulled over by a state trooper for speeding.
As a result, I got a $60 ticket for not having my front plate and a warning for speeding. O_o

There is a local shop where I live in CT called swiftmotorsports. They have a web site. They sale these hide away front plate holders. You can get them motorized. Look on there sight or on youtube.
