So when I bought my 8, the previous owner gave me 1 of those keyless entry cards.

I then found out that your supposed to have a pair. Now I'm worried that the PO might still have that key and is going to just show up at my house and drive away in my 8 with no troubles at all.

I called the dealer and they want about $350.00 for the card and another $150.00 for programming.

the programming is a given, no questions there. But a friend of mine has a spare card he's willing to give me. But he said its an 08-09 card. Would it matter if mines an 06?

And just for reference, does anyone know where to get another card besides the dealer?

 

You could try to find a card on ebay or something like that.....as for the 08 09 card I'm not exactly sure if that will work i'm guessing not because it would b programed to the PCM that is in HIS car! Ur best bet is to buy from the dealer or ebay and have the dealer program it.

As far as the past owner having another key that's just a chance that ur prob gonna have to take...when i got my car i only got a key one single key not key fob for remote unlock etc and nothing ever happened....but if anything does happen that's y u pay for insurance but i think u will b fine

And for sure I'm going to the dealer to get the card reprogrammed, I'm only curious if an 08-09 card has any differences that would negate its use on the 06. I'm hoping not, but you never know right? lol

 

there's a few threads on this site about programming for a new key. It's a very easy to do provided you have a key to begin with.

I would suggest getting the key from your buddy, follow the programming guide here and then have the dealership reprogram the keys so the old owner couldn't drive away with your car.

 

My 04 keyless keypad just stopped working. Best place to get a new one, I have already replaced the battery, still not working. Dealer price is crazy as usual, I need help.

 

I just picked up a card on ebay, was $60 shipped. I'm waiting for pay day this coming friday to see if the dealers can reprogram it. I'll let ya know how it goes.
