New To Me RX8

I just bought a 2005 RX8 GT. It has 37,000 miles on. Its got aftermarket exhaust on it and thats it as far as power extras. What kinds of things do I need to watch out for and what do I need to do to take proper care and maintain it. I know rotary motors are alot different than your standard motor so I dont know much bout the whole rotary thing. Ive heard alot of ggod things about the RX8 and just as many bad things. I just want to get as much information as possible from everyone out there. Thanks

the biggest thing is always check your oil. The car is made to use oil and it will. You run out of oil and the car bites back.

Outstanding FAQ staticlag.

Your [water pump related] "hits the water so hard it makes bubbles" definition of cavitation made me chuckle a bit tho'. Cavitation bubbles are actually formed due to the fluid boiling at lowered pressure (Boyle's Law of gases; 'pulling a negative' pressure). Not a big deal in the overall scheme of things (it's always easier to criticise than create). Again, well organized and written FAQ. Must read for noobies.

2 make srue u check the oil because rotaries are meant to burn oil...also don't shut it off before the engien is warmed up or it may flood....also don't be afraid to run the rpm's up through the range up to redline...many 8 owners live by "a redline a day keeps the carbon away" lifestyle

For sure!

Its easier to explain it that way instead of getting into a physics lesson about how the velocity of the blade lowers the pressure of two opposing entities of water allowing air to "boil" from it.

Much like moving your hand quickly in the swimming pool how bubbles form behind it or a boat's propeller seems to shoot bubbles when its moving.

The less the abrupt difference in pressure and the less the chance that bubbles will form.

Think of an airplane wing. Air is of course a fluid. Air moves across the wing at the same time, but it increases in velocity over the top bulge of the wing. Water does the same thing, it increases in speed when the blade hits it, and when it increases in speed its density lowers and stuff gets released.
