Hello everyone. I hope you all had a merry christmas and are enjoying your time off. I have a little problem. I recieved my RP supercat for christmas and was working on installing it today when I came across a problem with removing the old cat. The bolts on the flange in front of the cat are seized up real bad. I broke my socket trying to move the bolt closest to the ground. I was wondering if there is any way to get these off because I can't see how you would drill them out with there being no space for the two top bolts to get a drill in there. The bolt heads look like they have almost become part of the flange. I'll have pics soon

 

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH you cant remove the bolt, you need to remove the NUT on the other side of it....the bolt is WELDED on the cat....i experienced the same problem, took me all day till i figured it out

 

To remove and old cat

You need to say "Shoo! SHOO!! , OLD KITTY!!"

You have to yell because old cats can be hard of hearing.

 

is that the case for all three bolts. You're telling me that the bolts are part of the flange on the cat converter. That doesn't sound right.

Take off the nuts and maneuver the cat out. The bolts are press fitted into the flange.

the cat flange...theyre on there for GOOD, i had the same problem takin my cat out, soon realized that the bolts on the flange dont MOVE, gotta remove the nuts on the other side

 

I just looked at the 2003 Service Manual and it appears to show em press fitted onto the cat flange; I'll be damned.

Mine spun freely (2007); I guess you learn something new everyday.

 

^yeah thats what i thought too, i was there tryin to remove the bolt while i was holdin the nut in place...got mad and tried twisting both at the same time, soon realized the bolt was stationary and the nut started coming off

 

Now I know why you guys say it takes an hour to get your cats off; I just thought you weren't that mechanically inclined -

Must be hard to wiggle it off there - I can drop mine in about 4 minutes flat.

 

Rule of thumb on exhaust systems.....use low grade plated hardware....and high heat never seize

That way if they gall or corrode stuck you can just break them off with the impact gun

Nothing like trying to break of grade 8+ bolts

 

No problem. If yelling at the cat doesn't work, apply torque to the nuts
