worn out CF hood

hi gang. i tried to do a search and came out empty on this one. i got my car shipped from philadelphia to los angeles last year and ever since then, my VIS CF hood keeps fading more and more. i'm guessing its sun damage judging by the way it looks. i tried polishing it and it would work a little bit then eventually fade again. anybody else have the same problem? is there any way to bring the shine back? its really making my car look bad and its bugging me. thanks for the advice ahead of time.

oh yeah, i give the VIS CF hood a thumbs down.

why the thumbs down? Is the build quality poor? Is the fitment off by much?
how is the CF weave?

Or are you giving it thumbs down because you didn't care for it properly and the SoCal heat is taking it's toll on the hood?

aside from the fading issue, the fit wasn't that great. there are gaps on the side of the hood. it bothered me at first but i got over it.

i always use the meguires 3 step process of cleaner, polish, and wax. after every wash i would use spay wax.

i guess the VIS hood is ok but i prob won't buy their product again. i'm leaning towards the Veilside D1 GT hood at the moment.

Most Carbon hoods "fade" because they are not clearcoated.
They have a GEL coat, but no CLEAR coat like your paintjob will have.

Sorry to hear about the hood.

The coating off the hood can be carefully sanded down and re shot with a clear coat. If that fails you can always have the hood tinted a smoke color which will make the hood darker but you will still see the weave.

i've had mine on my 8 for four years. The weave itself is a bit faded, turns brown after a while but the coating is still smooth.

i got my cf hood used from another member and it was faded a little bit. so i went to a body shop and they sanded the hood and applied 3 coats of clearcoat for $115 it looks brandnew lol other then the few small dents i knew were there.

just get it sanded and clearcoated. Be sure to wax it tho. lol
