the mod bug.

hey guys, i recently bought a set of BLUE LED lights for my whole interior, sidemarkers and license plate . also some black strakes.

and i recently have some extra money left over after putting a huge chunk of it in savings in the bank. (cant touch it for like 4 years) ive decided that the extra money i get for now will go to my car.

soooo im basically asking for some advice or some input.

here are some mods im looking to get.

im looking at the VIS carbon fiber lips, and cant really decide or notice the difference in the 2, maybe a little advice on people who have the product would be reallly helpful.

and ive been searching for cf side skirts, but cant really decide on what to get.
same goes for the rear, been trying to find something also.

i've been mulling over just getting the whole lip kit.

Also, ive been wondering what

% tint to get, right now the tint in my car is to low, very light tint.

but i saw a 5 % tint. to dark, maybe 25% but idk yet. some input would be helpful.

and ive also wanted to know if anyone has tried tinting the side markers.

i've also decided i want the 40th anniversary rims, because i cant find any other rims attractive, theres just something about them

but i dont even know if i can buy them separately ,i tried calling mazda but their always closed when i call (the one in temecula)

i was wondering if i should get a cf hood, but just said to think about that after i've completed everything else.

(before you go nuts on the "search search search") i will let u know i have, and havent found anyone just using tint to do it, ive seen other people do other methods but not tinting.

sooooo yeah. help a kid out :]

just asking for help.

PIX Of Debadged 8 without being filled YET.
Note: the lone "8" debadge is a first i think :]. so make fun of anyonelse who does it cause they copied me :].lol

PIX of Interior

Exhaust

NEW QUESTION : Is the Seibon CF Lip kit a much better product than the VIS lip kit? im only a week or 2 away from making a purchase but im trying to do alot of research but cant seem to find an answer with searching alot. but i dont notice to many people with the VIS kit.

CF hood is no lighter than stock so only good for looks if thats what you like. I do on mine.

OEM rims from dealer you are better off looking for used ones. Dealer will just

And as for tint, it sucks but look through the "calling all ___" whatever you color is in the photo section.

Tint- Bad Idea. You are in california so tint is just a big Pull Me Over!!! sign. Its illegal to add any material to the windows. My opinion is that it is also not safe. If someone hits you in the side would you want that glass to break into little pieces (safety glass) or stay in one big decapitating sheet of glass. Just a thought.

I am not a big fan of the CF look. Again it is a big Pull Me Over sign and it looks ricey to me. But if you add any aero pieces be sure to get quality pieces and have them professionaly installed. Nothing worse then seeing aero parts hanging off a car.

Wheels: Whatever you get be sure they are fairly light weight. If you get cheep heavy wheels it will effect your handling. If you want the 40th aniversary wheels then used is the way to go. Buying new from mazda would be expensive but you could price them from one of the mazda dealers on the forume.

its illegal in CA to tint your car windows?

what?

no its not. you can tint your front side windows to 70%. granted thats not a lot, but you can tint and rear passenger and back windows any percentage you want. in MD its 35% all windows, except the windshield of course.

ST, i'd go for 65% for the front windows, and 30% for the other windows.

for california, the most you should do (which isn't legal) is 35% on the front windows. still illegal, but as long as you're not driving like a douche and don't have other illegal mods, a cop will not waste time on your tint. well, that's just speaking from my experiences.

close but no cigar kersh4w.

In CA, you are allowed to tint the rear windshield and rear windows any shade you want.
Front two windows are not allowed to be tinted at all. Anything other then the factory applied tint, is illegal in our great Communist State.

ive also wanted to know if anyone has tried tinting the side markers.
Did mine over last weekend. Pretty straight forward. I have no pics yet as I am debating going LED on the outside. Since these are spairs I am leaving them off until I make up my mind.

Easy as cake. Get some VHT brand paint. Nightshades is the color. I did 5 coats. A little polishing compound and then wax.

They look really nice. Just like my tail lights.

Take care,

Brian

yeah, there's a few sites out there that list a tint % for the front windows in CA but it unfortunately only refers to the factory glass tinting. Ever seen some of those new mercedes and the windows have a blue-ish tint to them straight from the factory? Yup, that's what they mean.

I have 20% up front on mine, I dont care... if the cops feel it necessary to give me a ticket so be it.

according to tintlaws.com, In CA you can have 70% on the front side windows, any thing on the rear windows and rear windshield, and only a 4" strip on the top of the front windshield. There are no medical exceptions to this. The tint also cannot be reflective, or the color red.

You could get away with darker tint, but only if your skin color is 90% white.

CA vehicle code:

Material Obstructing or Reducing Driver's View
26708. (a) (1) No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows.

(2) No person shall drive any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied in or upon the vehicle which obstructs or reduces the driver's clear view through the windshield or side windows.

(3) This subdivision applies to a person driving a motor vehicle with the driver's clear vision through the windshield, or side or rear windows, obstructed by snow or ice.

(b) This section does not apply to any of the following:

(1) Rearview mirrors.

The 70% that people refer to is discussed here:
(2) The window glazing with the material applied meets all requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 205 (49 C.F.R. 571.205), including the specified minimum light transmittance of 70 percent and the abrasion resistance of AS-14 glazing, as specified in that federal standard.
Note the key terms in that clause; window glazing. Since it is glazed into the glass, it is legal. Affixing tint to the glass is illegal

hey thanks for some of the help guys, anyone try installing a lip kit on their own?

i figure it cant be no where near how difficult it is to put a whole boy kit on.

please correct me if im wrong.

as for the tint i think im gonna go with 20% all around

and then putting in the blue LEDs in the side markers then putting a lighter tint on them.

and as for the anniversary rims ill look around for some used ones and see how it goes for me. if not ill call the dealer and ask for their price.

don't put blue led's in your side markers, you will be BEGGING for a ticket if you do that.
The officer will pull you over for the blue lights, then will proceed to tack on tickets for tinted front windows and possibly no front license plate.

Tinting the tail lights, head lights or any other required lights is illegal in california. Sorry I know its no fun but thats the law. Again do what you want, just know what you are getting into. Okay, now someone say I am wrong and then someone else look it up and prove I am right. Happens everytime.

Maby just do white led's? Still illegal but less "hey pull me over". Also are you planning on doing this to clear corners or amber? Blue lights+amber corners I think would look pretty bad.

I am a clear corners fan myself. If you plan on tinting tail or headlights the tinted ambers would go well with that.

mmm..i'm not a fan of tinted tail lights in california, that'll be a quick way to get a ticket. like jedi said, any obvious illegal mod will be worth it for them to pull your over because that usually means you have more stuff they can write you up for.

however, with the tint, it's my understanding that if you get pulled over for it, you can pay a fine and keep it on. so, at least you won't waste your money on that.

also, clear corners ftw

Clear corners with white led's looks good and is legal.

Blue lights anywhere is a NO NO. White lights to the back are also a PULL ME OVER sign.

Yes any fix it ticket can just be paid and not fixed but the law actualy says you have to fix it and if the officer finds out you never fix it and just pay the fine he can turn into a misdemeanor which can out you in jail for the night and your car in car jail. Get caught once, pay the fine, get caught twice then you might want to fix it. Third time spells trouble if the officer wants it too.

Why does everyone like to do cheep little modifications that are illegal and ricey. Everyone and their brother tints the windows, changes bulbs, tints the tail lights and puts on some cheep carbon fiber body pieces that just dont flow with the car. All for what? Pick a theme, keep it legal, make it all work togeather and do a good job installing quality parts and you will have an original, clean nice looking car that will never see an impound yard.

I think debadging looks nice, it cleans up the car.

yeah it is addictive... i have always had a mod list for the rx8 with bigger things like springs, shocks, rims, tires, sways, tsunami body kit.... etc. but recently started with the tiny stuff.

the car came with tint, then i bought a voodoo shift ****. i recently bought the footwell lights from RR and i bought red door lights, dome lights, and map lights... also a license plate LED in bright white, a trunk red LED. 2 front super white parking lights to replace the yellowish bulbs... a custom tag X STIG X.. umm a license plate frame, eyelids, rear rotary accent, Rotary Power B-pillar applique. i also painted my calipers, bought the batman brake light mask fixed my check engine light (gas cap) bought a new air filter and modded the intake to flow more, modded the rear diffuser to look better by painting the raised design silver. oh i also bought front brake pads, changed all my fluids.... damn i have done quite a bit more then i realized. lastly i bought springs but am waiting to buy shocks before i install

i just want to keep going but i cant..... if only my credit card had a higher limit... lol
