Yes, i bought it of ebay.

I don't have a dealer plate. I simply got a temporary plate from the dealer for a month, drove it home, and put it in my garage, and have not driven it yet. If someone buys it from me, I can simply assign the title. I can take pictures of the title and post it here also.

Take a look at my ebay feedback. 100 percent positive. and, of course, I do not have too many posts because I only purchased the car two months ago, and now selling it.

 

It says "New York, NY". I assume it's in NYC? If so, where? I would like to check it out in person.

everyone relax. this looks legit. it's just that i'm not aware you can not title a car when buying from a dealer new, which is why i thought you had a dealer license or some kind of resale permit or something. the car looks great. good luck

 

Thanks! and just to clarify, any time you buy a car out of sate (I reside in NJ and this was purchased in IL), the dealer will not title. They will give you the title to go to your own DMV. I am going to scan the title that I have and post it here.

First and foremost to the buyer: There has been no taxes paid on this car because it hasn't been registered yet. When you go to register the car and title it, you're going to owe the sales tax on the original purchase price, and a penalty for taxes not having been paid on it. Factor that into the purcahse price of the car. (IMHO, the $18.9K should be more like $16.9K just for that).

On top of that, if the state the car is in assesses property taxes on cars, there are back taxes due on it because most states start that from the day the car is bought, and a penalty on that also.

Trying to register the car in the same state is going to be rather difficult at best before those taxes are paid.

I suggest having the owner of the car register and title the car before buying. The only way to be sure there's nothing fishy with it and you don't get any surprises when you go to register and title the car. I'm talking a hit in the 3-4 thousand dollars range when it comes time to register the car.

Well, many states will have you pay sales tax even if I pay the tax now. (e.g., NJ). I am more than happy to register the car in NJ. In fact, based on the uncertanty on this issue, i have already decided to go ahead this coming week and register the car in NJ.


not sure about penalties, however. It is not late for the subsequent buyer. Any subsequent buyer is not bound by the fact that the car was purchased by me a couple of months ago.

anyhow, unless some buys it on ebay by tomorrow, the car is going to be registered, and most likely I will keep it for the winter.

 

not sure about back taxes and penalties, but that doesn't really sound right. registered or not, whoever buys it will have to pay use tax (in most states) when he/she registers the car anyway. the difference b/t this and a used car is, i think, the buyer will be taxed not on the price he/she reportedly paid (as w/ a used car) but on whatever invoice price or whatever is on record for this new car. i'm assuming kinda like when you get a free phone you have to pay taxes on the list price. so it'd just be whatever tax rate calculated based on the original sticker price. there's no catch here. you registering the car would just cost you some $ and the car instantly becomes used

the only catches that i see are: 1. some states, especially california, will not let you register a NEW car unless it was originally legally sold in cali or if it has certified california emissions. if you sell the car to a buyer from such a state who runs into difficulty registering the car, he/she might ask you to register the car first so it'll be used and register-able. 2. i dunno who would find this out or where one would get stuck, but if it's not titled and never registered, then no fees or taxes have been pad so technically it's not supposed to be driven or used on any roads whatsoever. the temp dealer plates expired so TECHNICALLY it's not street legal. of course you can transport/drive it to the dmv to get it registered. but i can see someone somewhere along the line in the bureaucracy accusing you of using a vehicle on public roads illegally, and without insurance. but seeing that it only has 750 miles i think it's pretty easy to defend that

this is like a mothballed car, and i like how it's totally basic. if i had 18k to play i'd totally buy it. i'd work w/ whoever buys the car about the registration issue, be prepared to register it if the buyer insists and/or needs. if he/she doesn't mind or can get the car registered and not get ripped off by the dmv w/o you registering if first, you'd save a few grand. good luck

 

I leased an RX-8 GT. Given that I got into track driving, yet can’t have a separate track car (unless I divorce); I am planning to buy one when my lease expires so I can tweak it a bit more to my liking.
