Friend's VR 8 stolen - VA/DC/MD

Hi Everyone,

I'm helping my friend out whose 2005 Velocity Red Rx-8 was just stolen today at Tysons Corner Mall in Virginia. She has already filed a police report, but wants to do everything possible to expedite the recovery process. I am asking anyone in the DC/MD/VA area to keep an eye out on the road in case you spot the perpetrator.

It's red, and it's an RX-8, so it's pretty hard to miss and shouldn't take more than a second glance. The theft occurred around 5PM on Sunday in broad daylight by the AMC cinema parking lot. The car is automatic--so features the 16" wheels, it has the full appearance package plus spoiler, and has a JMU decal on the rear window (unless they stripped it). The VA license plate is JZE 4898.

If you spot the car, PLEASE notify the authorities!!--unless it's while you're driving, then perhaps you can pull up next to the car and catch a description of the driver (plus calling the police afterwards).

Thanks, and let's pray it's in one piece.

-VN

wow, stealing cars at tysons corner? never would've thunk it

i'll keep an eye out for it, unfortunately if you haven't heard about it by now, it's probably already disassembled into pieces for parts sales.

That sux, but this isn't new.

Word of caution but Tysons in KNOWN for having your car stolen, especially in that mall/parking garage area. I heard about it years ago and can see its still going on.

The problem is its too easy an escape to 495/267/66 VA/MD, etc.

Not to be a downer, but that car is gone. My buddy had his TypeR stolen there years ago only to find parts of it for sale on ebay and the actual car never was recovered and the person never got caught.

Hope your friend has good insurance (although... w/ the immobilizer system in the 8, its hard to steal w/out the keys in the car in which case an insurance company wont be much help)

Daughter works in/around that area and lives in Arlington.........I'll have her keep a lookout, but as you know.................it's probably in pieces by now.

God, I hate that Tysons corner area!

Its reasons like this i'm probably going to either be putting in the Viper System GPS tracking/disableing system in the car. I might go with another company though i'm not sure. Mainly because I go to school in Newark, NJ.

And most insurance companies, if the car was stolen with the keys will try their hardest to deny any claim. If you leave your keys in the car and so forth.

Great News! My friend just told me that the police found her car in some dude's driveway, but couldn't disclose anymore information at the time. This guy is dumb! That's grand theft auto biatch!!! He should've just played the video game instead to live out his fantasies. I'll let you guys know more as the story unveils.

Oh. It appeared that my friend had dropped her keys when getting out of the car that day. She didn't realize it was missing until it was too late.

Here's all the info the officers could let on until the court date. They were a bunch of teens, between the ages of 16 and 18. The only damage is the rear bumper, where they tore off the license plate from the bracket. I guess they didn't have a decent screwdriver to just unscrew the plates from the holder. Other than that, the car just reeked of cigarette smoke.

Apparently, someone tipped the cops when these no-good punksters drove the car to school to show off. Something didn't feel right... Maybe the 8 had a "You Go Girl" decal, while pulling up to the lot with 4 guys jumping out. Anywho, I won't know anymore until after the trial. Stupid criminals..

left her keys in the car.... seriously who does that even if by accident, that means she didnt even lock the doors, no key fob no locky-the doory. at least she wont learn the hard way and will get her car back. kids were obviously going through the parking lot checking to see if doors were unlocked to try and score some quick money, and your friends car was like a jackpot they couldnt resist, unlocked doors and keys.
