Veilside D1-GT Rear Bumper Crunch Bar Removal Danger?

Hey All,

So I've got a painted Veilside D1-GT rear bumper sitting in my garage. Trying to sell it cause my last body shop would not install it on my vehicle because it required removing the crunch bar which protects the car from rear ends. Second bodyshop I talked to said they would insgtall but I would have to sign a waiver.

WTF? Any other rear aftermarket bumpers requiring this or just VS? Anyone think the risk is worth it? I'm leaning to no.

gil quite a few kits require either removal or trimming of the re-bar....i would be glad to help you with that barring you finish what needs to be handled with kenny....i spoke to him yesterday in person while visiting kels car and he mentioned there is still some unfinished business....i could also point you in the right direction but there are some things in question.....let me know your thoughts

as a general rule of thumb,
most Japanese kits will be created on a .... Japanese car.

Japan and USA tend to have different bumper reinforcements/ crash bar/ bumper support/ Re-bar... whatever the name you want to call it. The Japanese versions are usually much smaller compared to USA versions, hence the need to trim down or remove them from SOME cars when putting on the aftermarket bumper cover.

One specific example where the part was QUITE different is with the Mazda 6 / Mazda Atenza.

lol im glad i saw this thread because i was installing my d1gt kit and didnt know you had to modify the car i thought it was the bumper being the wrong dimensions or somthing. but i eventually just cut the bottom half of the crunch bar off then fipped it over and welded it right back on. it took about 30 mins and will have the same strength as before plus the bumper fits perfectly and flush to the crunch bar. its niiiiice. Def wat i would say do if i was you.

If you get rear ended without the bar what are you going to tell your insurance company?

I definitly would not suggest driving a car without bumper reinforcements on public roads.

it doesnt really matter whose fault it is if you are dead. or your passenger in the back seat is dead.

also, if your passenger in the back seat dies, you will be blamed because you removed the safety equipment to stop that.

I fabricated my own crunch bar and got the body shop to write up a letter saying we modified the rear end.

Who knows, it may help someday.

if some one hit you from behind and people die in your car. You think they still can find out that you remove that thing? Your car's rear end already look like **** and they blame you? so if I'm bad luck and I drive around I hit some one but my air bag didn't come out for whatever reason. Insurance will NOT pay my medical and will blame me? The god damn safety equipment is there for your own safety and insurance will not give a **** about it. My friend's geo metro doesn't even have a passenger side air bag if I'm in his car and some one hit him does that mean I am not coverd? COME ON!!!!!

legal fault is not about who is morally at fault. the two have little to do with each other.

you removed safety equipment that came with your car and now someone (who possibly wouldnt be elsewise) is dead. that makes it legally your fault. if someone hits you and you removed your rear crunch bar and a passenger in your car gets seriously injured. you can bet your *** the other insurance company will sue the **** out of you and you'll most likely end up in jail.

it goes like this

you get hit with rear crunch bar. nobody dies, the person who hit you is at fault.
you get hit with rear crunch bar removed. rear passenger dies. 1. the other insurance company will contest the amount of damages because the crunch bar would have stopped an excess of damage. 2. you are at fault for the passengers death.

I HAD TO MODIFY MY REBAR TO FIT THE BUMPER I MADE, I WOULD NOT GO WITH OUT IT FOR A FEW REASONS. ONE IF YOU GET REAR ENDED THE DAMAGE WILL BE SEVERE AS APPOSED TO NOT THAT BAD, ALSO THAT BAR TIES THE UNIBODY FRAME RAILS TOGETHER AND KEEPS THEM IN LINE. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST(IVE SEEN THIS HAPPEN) iF YOU REMOVE FACTORY SAFTEY EQUIPMENT THE INSURANCE COMPANY WILL NOT COVER DAMAGES TO YOUR VEHICLE. iF YOU MOD IT YOU WILL BE MUCH BETTER OFF.
