Anyone's Car Smell?

My car always had a mild "Hot/Burning Grease" smell to it since I picked it up. I chalked it up to the fact that I just had the new engine installed and it was burning off the excess oils and grease.

Then I go ahead and change both my tranny fluid and rear diff fluid about a month ago (BTW - I have the 24mm and 23mm sockets if anyone wants to do this at a future install meet). While loosening the drain plug I dropped my ratched and hammer into the catch pan....spilling used tranny oil all over me and the underside of my car (like the exhaust).

Now if I cruise with the sunroof open, all I can smell is hot gear oil. It is wierd, I cannot smell it outside the car, only inside. The car has no leaks and the gear levels are still ok.

Anyone else have a car that smells?

That's odd.. the Stanley socket wrench set I just bought has a 24mm, 22, 21, but now 20 or 23 mm???

It's not missing, the set is complete as it is, but those ones aren't there...

I do... I can't quite pin-point what the smell is, but it's enough to give me a head-ache or make me nauseous...

Like yourself, I can't notice it outside of the car and I typically only smell it if I have my sunroof open...

The smell is seeping through the hole where the shifter goes through.

I have a similar problem... the only difference is that mine goes through the hole where the shifter goes in. It smells like socks because I'm running Redline Heavy Shockproof.

When do you get your smell Renesis? At all times, or when the sunroof is open?

As long as I keep my windows up, sunroof closed and a/c on re-circulate, i never get the smell... But i've noticed that even raising the sunroof while leaving the sun-shade thing closed will bring the smell on... Would that cause a vacuum strong enough to bring the smell up through the shift-boot?

i think the best way is to get under the car, and just wash the transmission really good.

I think with the sunroof open, it just help suck the air up from inside the car, that's y the smell is stronger.

I had this problem with my car to after I got the second engine change. The stealership tried to tell me that it was maybe some oil in the engine compartment left from the change. The smell never went away. I took it in on 4 different occasions over the course of 1.5 years. The last two times they said they couldn't recreate the smell. A bunch of bullshit!!! They never did find outr what the problem was.
