Do you need to drill holes to mount the spare tire kit?
Do you need to drill holes to mount the spare tire kit?
Thinking about ordering one off of eBay.. at least there, they are 1/2 the price than at the dealer or if it comes on the car...
Do you need to drill anything? or is it set up already?
Thanks

StealthTL is correct; take a box cutter to the carpet walls... they're dotted cut already. The kit comes with two rivets that per the instructions are punched into the metal frame to support the big rubber stopper that presses against the mounted tire. Instead, you can easily use double-sided 3M tape to stick it where it goes. If you need clarification on this, i can take pictures (i used tape).
The kit will include instructions which will tell you exactly what all to do (assuming the seller provides them). The rest is merely bolt-on.

Unless you're looking for a strut brace, don't bother. Just apply a number of strong bonding velcro strips (4 myself) to the spare's cover and it will hold fine to the trunk floor carpet. Takes up a lot less space that way located to the back of the trunk.
Actually, I didn't carry my spare for long. I might throw it in for a long trip, but otherwise unnecessary.

don't get the spare tire kit...takes up a lot of space in the trunk from what I hear.
I have the patch kit with powered air compressor in the trunk in case I ever get a flat. This way I can patch the hole and fill the tire up to make it somewhere safe. Its light and very small.

Keep in mind for those that use the tire repair kit that is in the trunk. You will have to replace the TPMS sensor because it clogs the sensor up with that glue. It also gets on the inside or the rim and tire.
Tire shops love that stuff...
The spare tire is somewhat of a small insurance policy for road trips. Even in town when you have to be somewhere. Waiting for a tow truck can make you miss that important meeting or the local car meet.
