I recently was able to get ahold of a set of LE37's gunmetal with a polished lip... insane deal and you wouldnt believe me if I told you. Well the lip it self has the typical brake dust stains. I was wondering if anyone knew if I could use the mother aluminum polish to help take the marks out. I want to make sure I don't ruin these wheels that is why I am seeking help.

 

For the first initial cleaning use mothers power metal with the powerball mini. That take care of the dust marks, after that you won't need the powerball any more... just a good microfiber and the same power metal(hand applicated). Do this every once to two weeks and it will keep tnose babies shining.

really the clay bar wont be too abbrasive on the lip... well thanks for the help and once the coilovers go on I will make sure to add the pics to this thread.

 

Not at long as you use copious amounts of lube spray, it'll be fine. Also be sure to put on a good 2 coats of wheel sealant after.

 

where do i get wheel sealer from? i have never heard of that

 

i just use car wax. volks have an anodized clear coat.

 

Sorry I am bumping this because I want to clean my Volk GT-F's properly. I polished the lips with Brasso and a microfiber towel and they look okay but I want them to be perfect. So I can use a clay bar and just regular wax?

Does anyone know if the face of these is powder coated or painted? I cleaned them like twice and there are still some slight brake dust stains but I didn't want to scrub them with anything really abrasive so i used car wash soap and a microfiber wash mitt.. The previous owner took pretty good care of them for the most part (no curbing, etc.)but didn't do a detailed cleaning of them.

Haha, he took really good care of them as far as curbing so that is all that matters. They just need some TLC. He is a busy student, I have the time to attend to these things on a daily basis, Hell I just got them Friday and I have cleaned them twice already, haha. The painted part is my main concern, I need something to really clean that part. I need a degreaser, i wonder if simple green would harm them since it is supposed to be environmentally safe.

I just don't want to risk it, I used purple power degreaser to clean a spot on my old Maxima's Axis wheels and it stained the lip. I don't want that again, it bugged me until i sold the car a couple of years later.

yeah that would drive me crazy too. could you email the manufacturer directly and ask what they recommend?

 

Learn from me, do not use wheel cleaners, abrasive or not. Soap and water is your friend. Volk's GT wheels have an anodized lip. Any remotely abrasive cleaner will cloud/haze the finish. I had to get my anodized lip completely polished and removed. It cost a pretty penny.

I would treat the face as if they were painted.

 

Yeah do exactly what RA Eight said. He helped me when I got my GTS with the anodized lip. He saved me from making a stupid mistake of using a wheel cleaner. Just clean them once a week, unless you have ceramic pads, and you'll be fine. I've had mine for two years and they still look great. You can use any paint polish on the lips and face. Use a finishing polish by hand to shine them up. Menzerna is a good choice. Megs Swirl X works pretty good too, but it contains fillers, so it won't fix scratches other than fill them. It will remove water spots though. Oh and after it rains, make sure to clean them. Sitting water is bad. I also recommend the Klasse Twins to protect them. Their sealant glaze is the strongest on the market. That's what I use, and don't have a reason to change after using all kinds of other waxes that failed to meet my expectations in durability and shine.
