Pettit Racing radio **** doesn't fit 2009 RX-8 R3

My first and only accessory for my new 2009 RX-8 R3 was going to be one of Pettit Racing's cool billet aluminum rotor-shaped radio *****. I just received my **** in the mail this week and it was supposed to simply replace the OEM ****... but, on my car at least, it does not fit! The diameter of the Pettit **** is larger than the diameter of the original ****.

There is an opaque ring that fits around the inside of the radio **** housing. On my car it glows red when the dash lights are illuminated. If it were not there, I think the Pettit Racing **** might fit perfectly. Is this something new for all 2009 RX-8s or is it only on R3 models?

I love the look of the Pettit Racing rotor-shaped ****, so I'd really like to find a way to use it if anyone has any ideas.

my guess is they have changed the radio stack in the 09. and that is likely a good thing..

that opaque ring was attached to the **** on all the other radios... are you sure you got the whole **** out?

Well... I pulled the round, silver, plastic **** off the shaft... it is a one piece **** so I'm pretty confident I got it all. The opaque surround is in the shape of a shallow cup, the sides of the cup forming the illuminated ring that surrounds the ****, between the sides of the **** and the well that that the **** sits in. The shaft for the **** protrudes through the center of the base of the "cup". The base also has two other holes on either side of the shaft hole. I wondered if I should try pulling the surround out... but I know how easily plastic parts break and I'm not sure it isn't connected (from the back) to the other opaque insets that illuminate in the radio housing.

Could you take some pictures? From the looks of it it should fit, the head units look the same.

Wasn't there a "clip" on the OEM *****. Maybe you pulled the **** out but the clip stayed on the radios shaft?

Take care,

Brian

I'll take some pics, although I don't know exactly how to download them onto the forum.

The issue is not that there may be something on the radio **** shaft that's interfering with installing the new ****. The outer diameter of the Pettit **** is larger than the stock ****, at least on my 2009 R3.

Anyway, the folks at Pettit Racing have been in touch and they have also asked for photos. I'll try to do them just like I see on CSI with a ruler in the shot to show size and scale. I'll let everyone know how it works out.
