Show wheels vs. go wheels times eleventybillion

Show wheels vs. Go wheels version eleventybillion

I'm in a pickle. I'm trying to decide if I want my new wheels to be more show oriented or go oriented. My car is primarily a street car with no plans to race other then a few passes at the dragstrip [no auto-x]. Go to a lot of cruise-in's with friends a few carshows here and there [nothing big like Hot Import Nights]

I'm looking at two different wheels, both in the same size of 18x8. I think they both look good, but stuck on which ones to buy.

The go wheels, SSR Type-C RS in gunmetal:

Pro: Lightweight at 18.5lbs, semi-forged, race look, easy to keep clean.
Con: Kind of bland looking, no polished lip, expensive at $1300 for a set.

The show wheels, Stern ST11 De Elegance in black/polished lip:

Pro: More flashy with the polished lip, much cheaper then the SSR's, easy to keep clean, would be first person with these particular wheels on my car.
Con: Heavier then the SSR's, weigh about the same as stock wheels maybe a little less.

Unfortunetly, they don't make Volk's for my car, or I would have already bought a set and wouldn't have posted this, lol.

Which would you pick?

So, I'm guessing you drive a Lotus? If that is the case, go for the SSR's. Why go cheaper if your car is on the expensive side?

I have a Pontiac Solstice, not as expensive as a Lotus. Wheel selection is very limited. Stupid 5x110 bolt-pattern and high offset.

I'm sure they do make Volks for your car. They make Volks in any size/bolt set. The problem is that importers have to bring them in in bulk so if you have a rare size it's hard to find which means you have to do an overseas group buy. And most of their off the shelf are the 5x114.3 pattern. I'm sure there are vendors that can arrange a good GB for Solstice owners.

etc., etc., etc.

Oh and always go for the performance wheels that look good over show wheels that don't perform good. People judging your car know the difference.

Yeah those Sterns are ugly. If you want some show wheels get some HRE's, or Volks. Both are very expensive...but look damn sexy.

OMG, honestly can't even compare these two wheels.

Stern USED TO BE A JDM WHEEL, more of a design firm that outsourced manufacturing. At one point a wonderful reputable wheel.

At this point it is manufactured by the makers of ADR, Golden Apple Corp. They bought out the licensing rights to Stern Brand and used it to produce a "Premium Brand" for their company.

SOOO, in other words.

SSR much more expensive but a truly worthy wheel from engineering standpoint. Lightweight, better handling, braking, speed, and fuel economy.

Stern, just buy the cheapest wheel you can from ebay and make a Stern logo for the centercap. That's about all the worth Stern name holds now.

Sorry for being so blunt.

FYI, either way you want to go we're authorized dealers for SSR.

STERN IS 20miles away from me. So i can help you with either but my vote is definitely for the SSR.
