I was expecting a new Fifth Gear episode to be up for download today (or last night) but didn't expect the new 8 to be featured. Haven't watched this yet as I just got home from work.

I doubt it's as epic as the original Top Gear RX-8 comparo with the 350Z, but hopefully the 8 wins again!

The rx8 sounded so awesome going around that track!

That section where the new guy and the fat guy with curly hair hang out and act current and "cool" is really ridiculous. Did you guys see their clothes in this ep (and the first ep of the season)?? They are at least 15 years too old to be wearing clothes like that.

 

It was pretty weak. They did the review, Tiff kinda complained about the buzzer, he was on or near redline most of the lap it seemed. There was no real follow up to the test, ok the Zed was faster, test done.

 

So I downloaded it...and apparently it read it as a music file, because it plays the audio, but the screen is just black...

 

Yeah boo the 8 lost... I like the think the 09s are slower (esp. with the 19" wheels) hehe. Comparo was weak- they were just interested in what car lapped faster and had no proper conclusion (like which car they'd rather get considering the Z was 5K [UK pounds?] more).

Oh well Top Gear's the better show with better hosts and the one with the bigger audience anyway.. the '04 RX-8 review was a classic

^ Yep, VLC plays just about anything.

The emphasis on the shootout was speed and little else and looking at the power and torque figures of the two cars, its pretty obvious which would win. The power to weight ratio of the Z is still far better than the 8. The cornering abilities of the 8 (he said it cornered faster and had a more comfortable ride) is still not enough to overcome the power difference.

Not surprised. The Z has the torque to make up for any handling mistakes. Even at Car and Driver (Mustang, RX-8, TT, 350Z), the 8 was the slowest at the track. But was fastest on real world roads.

 

That was a horrible comparison, and a bad review. They just did a lap and talked....ahh I'm so glad we had Top Gear

 

From the brief looks on the track it seems like the Z was all over the road and he slid some in one of the sharper turns. The 8 seemed to stick to the road everywhere he went and looked solid.

 

agree 100 percent......

Top gear would have argued about which is better for 5 minutes or something...

 

Also...the earlier Z put down about 220-235 from the factory

the 07 and 08's put down 260+ stock with the HR motor
