Rear bumber repair

The previous owner of my house installed some crappy mini blinds on the small garage door window. Yesterday when opening the garage door they came crashing down right onto my rear bumper. The damage is actually less than I thought it would be, a 1/4" gouge and a scratch that is fixable.

I'm going to attempt to fix the gouge tomorrow, and I was wondering if anyone had some advice. It's a bit more to fill than a simple paint chip, because some of the plastic came out as well. I'm going to use some primer/filler to hopefully raise it up before applying the touch-up paint. We'll see how it goes. I'll try to remember to snap a few photos along the way.
