sup guys, new to the site

i just got a black 2005 RX-8 and came here to get the scoop on stuff. Its pretty much a daily driver. i also have a 2002 corvette with a 416 LS3 as well.
My first question is.......the oil light has come on...how low is the oil at that point? how much should I put in? I know when it comes on in the vette its about 1 quart low...answers?

It means you're dangerously low. Go check your dipstick and then follow this chart:

Also, you should always check your oil level at every gas fill-up, it's a good common practice for any car, especially the 8.

One more thing, the RX-8 consumes oil. You'll be down about a quart of oil approximately every 3,000 miles. The light should go on by then, this is the reason why to always check on your oil level for the 8. I usually top it off every 1,000 miles and change the oil at every 3,000 miles.

the dealer would have put in 5w20 but depending on your location you should use 5w30 or 10w30

Mazda recommends 5w-20 non-synthetic oil.

illinois i would use 5w30 in the summer and 5w20 in the winter (if your gonna drive it in the winter personally i would not i know how shitty it gets in the snow) so buy a beater....but if you do drive it 5w20 will help the warm up time

1 jack up the exhaust manifold side of the motor (pass side in usa)

2 take out drain plug, let drain till just a trickle comes out.

3 let down the car, jack up the other side.

4 let drain till complete..

5 install drain plug. drop car back to ground.

6 install oil filter.

put 5 qts of oil in car. start car let run for a bit... but dont flood it...

check oil level..... fill as necessary...

i put in over 6 qts when i made this fortunate error...

hope this helps.

Nice car. LS3 stroker is a nice setup... what is it putting down, 490-520 rwhp? I also see the Nitto drags on the back. Getting them to hook?
